Bringing You the Talent

Posted in ^_^ on February 8, 2009 by illdielaughing

I haven’t done one of these posts in a whiile. I’ve been really lazy and somber with all my schoolwork and grim outlook on my future. And I think that happens to a lot of college kids studying the arts, because really, the likelihood that we’ll all be poor and starving instead of making the big bucks is very high. There is the comfy in between but it will take us years of humbling and suffering before we resign to that

Anyway. I’ve seen a bunch of this girl’s videos and at first I didn’t think much of them. She was dancing in a garage. Amy really liked them, but I had no reaction and then I was like “ah, she is good” and then somehow Amy and I came up with a strange story of why exactly she was always dancing in her garage.

Her father doesn’t want her to be a dancer. She bribes her younger brother into shooting her while she dances, but only while her dad’s away at the grocery store or something. The other variation on the story was, he said, “there will be none of that dancing in my house!” and he makes her use the garage.

Obviously, there is no truth in this story–apparently she has a sister named Andrea who is music player and camera man (so we were sort of on the right track)–we were just being really absurd one day and the “what if’s” were flying back and forth. Enjoy the dancing of Jessica aka ikpx10o4i on youtube.

Shutting Down

Posted in Maintenance with tags on February 8, 2009 by illdielaughing

I’ve come to the decision to close down my blog. At this point it’s kind of useless to have it up. I hardly ever say anything interesting here anymore, let alone update. And it feels as if it’s starting to become a waste of cyberspace. T_T

So at the end of february “NYCSeoulTokyo” will not exist. Thanks guys for reading and commenting and for helping me out. I didn’t want to close down my blog but I don’t have time for it anymore, between school and work and life and writing for seoulbeats. It’s just too much to do. I’m sure there’ll be other blogs to replace what I was doing, though, since August of last year it wasn’t really much. On March 1st, I’ll either stop writing or delete the whole blog. It’ll be as if it never existed, which is kinda sad  but I can live with it.

Me closing this site down was a long time coming, really. I’ve stopped liking a lot of things, people were calling me a hater, and I didn’t really feel it necessary to judge everything that I came across, or try to figure it out. Now I just want to go back to the Kpop fan I was when I first started, one that visits blogs but doesn’t write in one. I may (and probably will) regret closing down NYCST at some point but really I think it’s for the best.

Peace.

Cocaine and SNSD

Posted in Seoul, WTF?, suckness with tags on February 7, 2009 by illdielaughing

So have you heard of the Cocaine nose video? Or the reaction videos? Apparently people were instructed to watch the vid with SNSD’s “Gee” playing in the background. Wha-wa WHAT?

As random as it is, I think it’s a pretty hilarious combination. Unfortunately, people didn’t understand that SNSD was not the main focus of the video and assumed that the reactions were to the song. Now that was clearly was not the case but some people DID have reactions to the music as well. Mostly in the “This-shit-sucks” arena. This of course put people on edge, but let’s be honest. SNSD’s “Gee” may be catchy but it is the epitome of crappy, manufactured pop music and saying you hate the song, are claiming that it is shitty is not bashing especially not to people that don’t at all know how the cooks in fandom think. I’m sure they would have avoided saying anything about the song if they’d known that a barage of ill-informed fans were going to be leaving idiotic comments.

The funniest thing about this whole thing though is that there are only 6 reaction videos, and apparently the “cocaine nose” video isn’t that interesting anyway. So really, the SNSD fans are the ones making the video of people abhoring SNSD’s music more popular. Hah.

Nice job guys.

“The Good, The Bad, The Weird” [Review]

This film is beautiful, hilarious and has convinced me that Lee Byung Hun is attractive. I didn’t think a movie could be so many things.

Set in 1930’s Manchuria, this “Kimchi Western”, based on the Italian “spaghetti western” The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, surrounds a treasure map and the various groups and individuals that are out to find it and the supposed treasure. The main focus, of course, is The Good, bounty hunter Park Do Won, The Bad, crazy killer Park Chang Yi and The Weird, petty thief Yoon Tae Goo. Also involved in the chase is the Japanese army, Korean independence fighters and what seems to be roaming Chinese nomads. Read more »

G-Dragon leaves earth

gdragon-flies

From Borbes Magazine: G-Dragon is being beamed back into the mother ship and he’s returning to the planet he came from. They decided he’s caused to much fashion damage to continue his existence on earth. The mother ship retrieved him quickly and left their deepest apologies to the citizens of Earth.

I love this picture of G-Dragon. It’s hilarious. It also made me want to post which I’ve been having a hard time doing lately. More pictures from the Big Show to come!

I’m no longer very excited about anything that Big Bang does. I slowly fell out of love with them over the course of the Stand Up EP and the Remember album. But I’m interested in what their solo endeavours will bring. Read more »

81st Annual Oscar Nominations: 2009 (!!!!!)

I love the Oscars. Even though I know it’s a highly politicized process I think it’s such a great night and I love the look on people’s faces when they’re recognized.

Halle Berry winning for Best Actress

Adrien Brody winning for Best Actor

I think I’m an Oscar fangirl. The nominees are rather typical. Read more »

Taeyeon made a mistake?

Now would the mistake be that she thinks that Alicia Keys “for a black person is really pretty?” Or is the mistake that she said it on national radio? Read more »

Kgot Boda Namja * Boys Before Flowers: Take Two

Man, this drama is the thing that’s really not good for young minds, forget about Mirotic.

jandi_junpyo_wrist-grab2jandi_junpyo_wrist-grab1

Of course, if you watch Korean dramas long enough you get used to seeing the rampant sexist attitudes towards women. Women are more often than not grabbed by the wrist and dragged from one place to another in this drama. Or if they’re white women they’re sexualized and basically made into accessories (or put on a pedestal), which is something else I’ve gotten used to in Korean dramas and movies. Kind of like how one gets used to see minorities in American films get constantly type cast. In both instances, I’m used to it but it still bothers me and my being used to it doesn’t justify it’s existence. Read more »

“After School” is a bit too much

Posted in Music, Seoul with tags , on January 19, 2009 by illdielaughing

Man these girls are trying hard.

There are a few things I really like about this group. They’re all age appropriate ranging from 20-29. I like that there are older women in this group because I’m sick of the obsession with young talent in the music industry. It’s nice seeing older women being sexy and not 16 year-olds feigning sexy. I mean, the Wonder Girls aren’t this blatantly sexy but So Hot left a really bad taste in my mouth. Anyway, in After School, they can all dance better than most of the girl groups in Korea and they are actually good performers. But on the flip side they are obviously trying to be the Pussycat Dolls and they’re pushing the Sexy past it’s limits into trashy. Read more »
