Proposition 8

Posted in ^_^ on November 14, 2008 by illdielaughing

Well, I think it’s a pretty crappy proposition and I think it’s a shame that this kind of blatant discrimination has been passed in California. I also think that the ban on gay marriage in 2 other states is a disgrace to this country. We may not be as bad other countries where even being gay is illegal but we should have enough sense that we can recognize that taking away the rights of gays to marry is unconstitutional and unethical.

Word.

Music I Like: The Hip-Hop/R&B Edition

Posted in Music, ^_^ on November 13, 2008 by illdielaughing

In lieu of all this bad American mainstream hiphop stuff I keep hearing I decided to post some of my favorite hiphop/rap/R&B songs. And they’re all mainstream. These are just random ones I thought of on the spot and it doesn’t show my all time faves but songs I recognize as being worth listening to and that I really enjoy.

Here are 11, 6 are Hiphop/Rap and 4 are R&B and another is sort of Hip-pop:

Eve feat. Faith Evans Love Is Blind (1999)- Heart-breaking song about Eve’s friend that was in an abusive relationship that ended tragically. The music video, when I first saw it back in ‘99 made me cry.
(Also great from Eve is Let Me Blow Your Mind and Gangsta Lovin’ ft Alicia Keys).

Black Eyed Peas Let’s Get it Started (2005) - So well produced, great fun song. Even in a light-hearted song like this BEP manages to be intelligent (despite the fact that the uncensored version of the song is Let’s Get Retarded) (Also great from BEP is Shut Up and Don’t Phunk With My Heart)

Missy Elliot I’m Really Hot (2004) - Hot beat, and the music video is hilarious. Krumping, Japanese yakuza drama and a jazzy dance break, what more do you need? (Also check out Why You All in My Grill and Gossip Folk if only because in the intro someone says “I heard that bitch got hit by three zebras and a monkey, I ain’t like that bitch no way.” Come on, guys that funny, right? lol)

DBSK’s “Wrong Number” MV

Posted in ^_^ with tags on November 12, 2008 by illdielaughing

Um. Two very important things to note. I have those shoes that they’re wearing. The sexy silver ones. They’re girl shoes. Tehehhe. Also, erm…Yunho is not wearing a shirt, he’s in the bath. He’s obviously gotten those mythical man-boobs under control.

In almost everyway I like this music video better than Mirotic, I think it actually is a better mv but Mirotic is more fun to watch, most likely due to the better dancing. Wrong Number is one of the few songs I liked off of Mirotic so it’s nice to see a music video for this and one that looks really good. Not too campy, not to dramatic. Well, I take that back. Jaejoong is having a pity-party on the floor on his red carpet next to a glass of wine. He is such a woman.

Anyway, I just have to mention that they look SO much better than they did in Mirotic. That asymmetrical crap was not working for me. But suits and less bellybutton/nipples is nice to see. Jaejoong’s rap was also not bad to watch, I wonder if he got pointers from TOP…

Youngbae. English. 1:44. LMAO

So adorable. They seemed to have been unable to find Korean kids? Maybe they’re trying to be international… lol

I’m a source on Wikipedia!

Haha, now I know how unreliable that website really is if I am sited as a source LOL.

Surprisingly it has nothing to do with kpop but that youtube “celeb” I talked about a while ago, Ryan Higa.

My Last Will and Testament

big-bang_number-1

I just posted this on soompi, against my better judgement. G-Dragon, in the picture above is saying, “SHH! You shouldn’t have said anything!”

I think I’m going to offend some people with this comment so i’ll just preface it by saying “Sorry.”
Anyway, I love Big Bang but they are not the second coming and they are not the hottest thing to come out of Korea, especially not in terms of hiphop. This “new genre” of music Big Bang showed is not new, it’s called pop music. Kanye and G-Dragon are not on the same level, lets not even go there.
Seriously I do like Big Bang, Hot Issue was a fresh minialbum and thats why I love them but I think their latest Korean album is a jarble of techno and hiphop beats for the most part. They aren’t really a hiphop group anymore, they’re a pop group that wears hipster hiphop-ish clothing and is heavily influenced by hiphop, rap etc.

I’m not really offended to hear you call American hiphop a joke so much as confused because if you listen to shi.tty music then it’s going to be a joke. If you listen to some good American hiphop then maybe you’ll realize that it’s not America’s “fault”, but yours for listening to Flo Rida when you could be listening to Lupe Fiasco, Pharell Williams, The Neptunes, Gnarles Barkley ETC I sound harsh but there’s no other way to put it frankly.

Also, you do realize that Big Bang has sang and rapped about maybe 3 different things since they’ve debuted? Breaking up, sex and… money… Honestly, I really cant stand when people try to put down the American industry because they can’t find good music in it.

ANYWAY, here’s why I like Big Bang
They have good music for the most part (recently they’ve been slipping)
They have good singers and good rappers
Did I mention they have good rappers? In pop music in Korea thats a rarity
They can dance and they aren’t afraid of women lol

And here are some pictures of nice looking things so that you all don’t come looking for me and tar and feather me.

I know I shouldn’t have but sometimes I read something that irks me so much I must respond. Anyway, in lieu of this I’ve decided to write my last will and testament because I know…they will find me.
To Amy, at Popfestast, I leave this blog.
To Ellie, I leave the camera we use to shoot Seoulbeats Weekly (don’t forget to give it back to NYU before Winter break!).
To the VIPs I’ve offended I leave my scratched and tirelessly listened to Hot Issue mini-album. I also leave my The Great Concert DVD.
To my readers, I leave my itunes playlist.

“Mirotic” MV: Dance Version

Posted in ^_^ with tags on November 9, 2008 by illdielaughing

There’s a pelvic thrust in this dance. Say what?

I had a lengthy conversation about this with a couple of people mostly because I didn’t notice it, and also because Junsu is so into it. He makes it so bloody epic.

Here’s a bit of a conversation I had about it, just so you know how i feel:

X: that was a small ass pelvic thrust!
Me: NO
ME: look at junsu
ME: look at his face
X: i saw him, with his hand behind his head and what not
ME: and the hand
YO
how is that not intense?
. . .
ME: dude
wtf
first of all
where did all that penis come from
second of all
why is junsu so excited by it
third of all why is changmin nearly knocked off of his feet by the power of his own genitals?

I would also like to point out that right before this pelvic thrust Yoochun is having some sort of fit. Man, look at that hair…

Needless to say, I LOVE this music video.

“Red Sunset” for you

Posted in Music, Seoul with tags on November 5, 2008 by illdielaughing

Soooo. Big Bang is blowing it up right now. 200,000 pre-orders and happy-go-lucky music video.

Basically, I like the video but the song is rather boring. Happy though but I really don’t feel it the way I felt their older music.

The guys looks great and are cute and all that good stuff, and I’m happy they’re drawing attention to the beach and are doing nice things, but all these things, for me, are separate from their music.  I like that their image is where it used to be but I’d rather they still wore eye-liner and gave me a better title song.

Anyway, I won’t make complete judgments yet, I still have to listen to the rest of the album. I’m doing a track-by-track review here and another op-ed with Amy, when we both get our shit together. But this is what I wrote on SB.
