Cocaine and SNSD

Posted in Seoul, WTF?, suckness with tags on February 7, 2009 by illdielaughing

So have you heard of the Cocaine nose video? Or the reaction videos? Apparently people were instructed to watch the vid with SNSD’s “Gee” playing in the background. Wha-wa WHAT?

As random as it is, I think it’s a pretty hilarious combination. Unfortunately, people didn’t understand that SNSD was not the main focus of the video and assumed that the reactions were to the song. Now that was clearly was not the case but some people DID have reactions to the music as well. Mostly in the “This-shit-sucks” arena. This of course put people on edge, but let’s be honest. SNSD’s “Gee” may be catchy but it is the epitome of crappy, manufactured pop music and saying you hate the song, are claiming that it is shitty is not bashing especially not to people that don’t at all know how the cooks in fandom think. I’m sure they would have avoided saying anything about the song if they’d known that a barage of ill-informed fans were going to be leaving idiotic comments.

The funniest thing about this whole thing though is that there are only 6 reaction videos, and apparently the “cocaine nose” video isn’t that interesting anyway. So really, the SNSD fans are the ones making the video of people abhoring SNSD’s music more popular. Hah.

Nice job guys.

The video/man that started it all:

No more “crack” for Seungri

Posted in Music, Seoul, WTF? with tags , on January 5, 2009 by illdielaughing

Seungri was banned from performing Strong Baby on KBS because he used the word “crack” in the song. The nitwits at KBS believe that he is alluding to crack cocaine.

I laughed for a while after reading this. I wrote a post about it on Seoulbeats and I still can’t get it out of my system. This is one of those WTF moments that you have every once in a while. Or more often, it seems, when involving Kpop. I wish these people would make more educated decisions when it determines someone changing their work. DBSK having to change “under my skin” to “under my sky” is almost as ridiculous as this. In the DBSK, there was absolutely nothing wrong with “under my skin” the people just didn’t know enough English to make an educated decision about it. In Seungri’s case, there were so many other reasons that they could have banned the song but they chose the use of the word “crack”. WTF.

Before all the bannings, I wouldn’t even have thought that anyone would have banned this song. To me, it’s harmless. But after the banning crusade of the Family office of welfair of whatever it’s called I expect anything from a male artist to be banned nowadays.

Still in perplexed shock. The worst is that I’m sure that some KBS employee thinks they’re really intelligent for “catching” that meaning of the word crack. Well, guess what, you’re an idiot.

SBS Fails at Life

Posted in Rant, WTF?, World with tags on July 31, 2008 by illdielaughing

SBS insists on embarassing themselves.

First they make Youtube take down all videos of the shows that air on their network. (They have every right to do this, but unless they sub their dramas and variety shows, it shouldn’t matter if English speakers are watching subbed SBS shows on Youtube. We wouldn’t be watching their shows when they broadcast anyway). Then they leak secret video of the Olympic Opening Ceremony rehearsal with the knowledge that they are not allowed capture video.

The organizers of the rehearsals didn’t do double checks on whether or not people had cameras but they warned people against taking picture or video and they were stopping people from taking pictures in the front row. So SBS knew they had footage that was illegal to show. It’s one thing if someone just leaked it online, but it’s a whole other thing if they use it on their news program.

Personally, I don’t really care about the opening ceremony and I don’t think that seeing the rehearsals is going to ruin the opening ceremony for people that do care. But I do feel that SBS was indecent and they’ve shown their complete lack of regard for professionalism and the integrity of journalism.

Johnny’s Entertainment Threatened by DBSK

Posted in Music, Tokyo, WTF? with tags , on July 29, 2008 by illdielaughing

We knew this.

But now we know for a fact that Music Station isn’t allowing DBSK on as guests. Music Station wasn’t explicitly stated by the source, S-Diary (a blog by a Japanese staff member of DBSK), but it’s been inferred by the things he’s written about the issue of DBSK not being allowed on certain shows.

This just reflects why my Japanese friends hate the Japanese music industry. Johnny’s controls way too much, they know that pre-teen and young teen girls have little to no common sense, bad taste in music (let’s be honest with ourselves guys, you remember the days -_- ) and a strange obsession with malnourished pretty boys. Johnny’s, who only lets boys into his entertainment company for that very reason, controls the boyband music scene and casts a lot of their boys in dramas (like the miscast Maou). I generally see Johnny as this guy that grossly overestimates his importance and can not deal with competition, especially legitimate competition like DBSK. Read more »

Lolitas, Threesomes and Fobby Engrish: News Bites

Posted in Seoul, Tokyo, WTF?, ^_^ with tags , , , , , on July 28, 2008 by illdielaughing

Slow couple of days, but some stuff has happened that I have to blab about.

  • I, unfortunately, saw So Hee’s ass while watching her perform to Beyonce’s Freakum Dress for her adoring young female fans and pedophile male fans. Yay for fifteen year-olds asking other people to get their freakum dress on and yay for little people with dumpling faces trying to entice her fans with very nearly flashing her vagina. (Don’t worry, I’m sure she’s wearing underwear).
  • Han Geng is going to star in a Chinese drama. Good for him.
  • Jun Jin passed out from overworking yesterday. I think Korean entertainers should relax and stop working so much, especially if they make crappy music.
  • Seo Taiji is making a comeback–or on his way back. July 29th sees the release of the first single from his 8th album, Foetus. Wonder what that means. Go to Seotaiji.com. He’s giving away tickets.
  • I’m writing for Seoulbeats! Look forward to my articles there under the penname “illdielaughing”.
  • “World Star” Rain is releasing an album in Asia in october. This will be his first album away from JYP. I don’t know how that’s going to sound but I wish him luck because his “world star” status is, well, a lie. In related news, Rain had the nerve to dance with hair like this. Rain, please, you are not some cowboy on the frontier, come back to your senses and dress with some panache. (And stop doing interviews in English!
I love how his translator sneakily tells him what the person is saying in Korean. My favorite question and answer? Interviewer: “Did you learn any German?”  Rain: “It was beautiful. Yeah.”
  • Japanese boyband Arashi’s Satoshi Ohno is being accused of smoking marijuana and having a threesome–by a Japanese trash mag. People are going crazy, fans are crying, police are threatening to arrest him, Johnny is passing an elephant. Guys, relax. There is no proof besides pictures of Ohno, fully-clothed, with two girls. This seems like a stupid rumor created by assholes and even if it was true…who cares? (Yes, I know marijuana is oh-my-god huge in Japan). What’s sad though is that whether or not it’s true this news is getting pretty international. I first read about it here
Well, news is rather depressing isn’t it?

Is cross-dressing REALLY necessary for every idol group to do? I seriously thought Tae Min was a girl. Actually, until I saw the way Minho freakishly stood out I thought all of them (except the obvious disaster with the red headband) were girls. They look waaaay too comfortable. What happened to men with balls? Did we lose all of them?

And Onew… haha.

5 Things In the News Today

Posted in Music, NYC, Rant, Seoul, TV, Tokyo, WTF? with tags , , , , , on June 12, 2008 by illdielaughing

NOTHING seems to be sparking my interest enough for a full post.

Lee Jun Ki is gonna kick R. Kelly’s ass.

1. Iljimae’s ratings has exceeded 20%. This drama is uber-popular, I would watch it but, generally, I am incapable of taking Lee Jun Ki seriously (it was the first minute of Time Between Dog and Wolf that did me in.) Yes, I am aware that I’m being completely unfair but we’ll see, maybe I’ll watch it and fall in love(???)

2. Cassiopeia still thinks that it’s a good idea to waste money on the Dong Bang boys’ birthdays. Micky refused the gift of a thousand dollars worth of camera equipment. Cass, here’s some advice: feed your self, your family, maybe an African baby or two and BUY THEIR ALBUMs. DBSK doesn’t want digital what-not’s from you, they want album sales. [Their was also a birthday party (is it just me or is it just weird to celebrate the birthday of someone you don't know?)]

3. Doctors at the University of Tokyo Hospital in Tokyo’s Bunkyo-ku performed surgery on the wrong eye of a 70 year old patient. -_-; Good going guys. They performed surgery on the correct eye the following day. This is somewhat good news because the old man had a glaucoma in both his eyes. This is good because now the guy can see through both eyes, this is bad because what if he didn’t have glaucoma in the the other eye, and this is silly because shouldn’t the old guy have said, “hey, that’s the wrong eye”?

4. Remember when R. Kelly peed on that 13 year-old girl and video taped it? Well, that was, say, 10 years ago and the case is now going through trial. R. Kelly’s people are alleging that the man is not R. Kelly and that the girl is not who they say it is. The prosecutor is saying that the man is R. Kelly and that R. Kelly is a perv (in the video R. Kelly [if it is him] makes the girl walk around, pee on the floor and then he proceeds to have sex with her, though I’m not sure if the sex comes before or after the peeing upon her incident). Well, with songs like “Age Ain’t Nothing but a Number” and “Bump N’ Grind” I’m wondering how the jury will decide.

5. The Dow and NASDAQ are up… but don’t be fooled America, we are in a recession :) .

6. (Another one because because number 5 wasn’t fun!) People (what a vague word) seem to forget that their favorite artists aren’t the only singers in the world and that, YES other artists might release a single on the same day. Not it wasn’t on purpose. Relax… don’t get a headache worrying over conspiracy theories.

7. Sorry, that wasn’t news either, just griping… Hmm… How about this. DBSK is releasing their T Concert DVD! (More Idol paraphernalia that I’ll be too cheap to buy(exclamation point optional).

8. Okay this is the last one, I only added it because I forgot about the best news this week. So You Think You Can Dance is back! And so is America’s Best Dance Crew, (they have a crew on the show called fannypak) I am SO excited.

(9. I finished Fruit’s Basket. The last book was kind of unnecessary, the plot points could have fit into book 22 but it was nice to draw out a series that I didn’t want to stop reading.)

Okay, I’m done with my “5″ News points. You can choose which five were the most exhilarating.

She was Sleeping Where?!

Posted in NYC, Tokyo, WTF? on June 10, 2008 by illdielaughing

Aya Nakamura, a window washer, helped a Japanese hotel group promote their brand by “sleeping” for 20 minutes on a bed on their billboard and “waking up” in the middle of Ginza’s shopping district. The company was good to pick someone used to being up that high.

Speaking of window washers, in NYC a window washer fell FORTY SEVEN stories and lived. His brother, however, who was cleaning windows with him did not survive. But still the idea that someone can survive that is absolutely amazing.

Andy… She’s REALLY You’re Type?

Posted in Seoul, WTF? with tags , , on May 27, 2008 by illdielaughing

Haha, Andy went from saying that anyone, as long as they’re a girl, is his ideal type. (erm…. okay.) And now SNSD member and 17 year-old Yoona is his ideal type? (Erm… pedophilia makes me twitch).

Well, Yoona returns the feelings. She said recently that after watching Andy cook on We Got Married she finds him to be her ideal man. Well, this statutory couple can have lots of fun with each other. And Yoona can work on her handwriting as she writes Andy lots of letters while he’s in jail.

Anyway, Solbi is so much better than Yoona, and it’s not just because I don’t like SNSD, it’s that Solbi’s personality is so much better than Yoona’s, she’s more mature and, for goodness sake, she’s not 17 years-old. Andy’s really bothered me with this Lolita complex of his. I know he’s the youngest member of Shinhwa but he’s not THAT young.

Also, isn’t it just convenient that the news of Andy being Yoona’s ideal type comes out after Tiffany insulted Jun Jin and Shin Hye Sung? Haha, I don’t even try to take Girl’s Generation seriously anymore.

Fergie’s Act NOT Age Appropriate

Posted in Music, NYC, WTF? with tags on May 24, 2008 by illdielaughing

Uhm… Fergie, What were you thinking?

Fergie performed Barracuda this Tuesday at Rockefeller Center on the Today Show. Every summer they have a series of free concerts. I’ve been to a couple, but none were as ridiculous as this one. I only say that Fergie’s performance was ridiculous because she basically does an exotic dance in skin tight pants at 10 in the morning in the presence of 6 year olds.

The faces of some of those kids are PRICELESS. People are all joining it at first but then Fergie gets down on her knees, almost humps the floor and does a boob grab… YIKES. The man’s face at 1:50 AWEsome, he’s probably thinking, I shouldn’t show that I’m really enjoying this.. but…yay!

Fergie then continues on her oversexed performance by stroking the guitar player. How old are those kids at 2:51? Like 7? It’s almost too much to watch. Then she does one handed cartwheels while half-singing, half-grunting “Oh Oh Oh”. Then she closes it off with 15 whole seconds of ass shaking.

Fergie is a good performer but she should know that the Today Show audience is not the same as her late night show audience.
