Jang Dong Gun is Good Will Ambassador

“I am honored to be appointed and I feel the heavy responsibility that comes with it. I will do my best to raise awareness of food shortages among the many people in Korea and the rest of Asia,”

Said Jang Dong Gun of being appointed as an ambassador for the UN’s World Food Program. I’m just really happy that a picture hasn’t surfaced of Jang Dong Gun looking at Bill Clinton with glassy, childlike eyes. I can’t tell you how annoyed I get when I see people like Yoon Eun Hye and Koda Kumi looking WAY too happy to just be in the presence of western stars. I just want them to chill out and hold their own. You’re famous too, guys!

Anyway, Jang Dong Gun is especially happy about this appointment because, with family born in North Korea, he is very concerned with the malnutrition issues there. Jang, like any other Good Will Ambassador had many interesting statistics to throw out concerning their issue: apparently, of the 850 million victims of famine in the world 500 million of them are Asian and 6 million are on the cusps of starvation.

Jang Dong Gun… when’s laundry warrior coming out?

Asian Variety Shows Coming to American TV

Posted in TV, World on August 18, 2008 by illdielaughing

First it was I survived a Japanese Game Show and now Fox is taking The Wall game from Japanese variety shows and the Korean variety show, Jihwaza, for their new fall show, Hole in the Wall. Check out the preview below. (horrible quality but it’s still funny)

The game has been all over the world and America is finally get their hands on it. This is going to be hilarious. Just the preview made me crack up. The only difference is that in Asia you have celebrities doing these ridiculous things, in the US however, it’s just everyday people.

SM Global Auditions 2008

Posted in Auditions, World, ^_^ with tags , on August 6, 2008 by illdielaughing

They’re BAAAAaaaaaack. Are you ready to join the SM Family?

I will be going to the New York Auditions to document the plight of wanna be kpop singers. (Don’t worry, this girl is not auditioning, that would be AAAAWWWWKWAAARRRDDDD). But, me taking pictures and video should be fun. Hopefully the auditions this year will be held in a better place than that auto place like last year. We’ll see.

Anyone can try out but you have to be Asian. SM is not one of those companies that doesn’t care. I imagine that half-Asians are also welcome but I’m sure they prefer the Daniel Henney’s more than the Amerie’s. EDIT: You don’t have to be Asian to try out, but I’m sure being Asian doesn’t hurt your chances seeing as SM says you have to be Asian on their website.

I’ll post more information as it becomes available. Anyone trying out this year?? Drop a comment if you are. And if your going to audition in New York I wanna meet you! I want to interview people for a possible documentary. Below are the cities and dates.

9/19      Hawaii
9/21      Los Angeles
9/26      Washington D.C.
9/26      Orange County (CA)
9/28      New York
9/28      San Francisco
10/18     Toronto
10/25     Vancouver

SBS Fails at Life

Posted in Rant, WTF?, World with tags on July 31, 2008 by illdielaughing

SBS insists on embarassing themselves.

First they make Youtube take down all videos of the shows that air on their network. (They have every right to do this, but unless they sub their dramas and variety shows, it shouldn’t matter if English speakers are watching subbed SBS shows on Youtube. We wouldn’t be watching their shows when they broadcast anyway). Then they leak secret video of the Olympic Opening Ceremony rehearsal with the knowledge that they are not allowed capture video.

The organizers of the rehearsals didn’t do double checks on whether or not people had cameras but they warned people against taking picture or video and they were stopping people from taking pictures in the front row. So SBS knew they had footage that was illegal to show. It’s one thing if someone just leaked it online, but it’s a whole other thing if they use it on their news program.

Personally, I don’t really care about the opening ceremony and I don’t think that seeing the rehearsals is going to ruin the opening ceremony for people that do care. But I do feel that SBS was indecent and they’ve shown their complete lack of regard for professionalism and the integrity of journalism.

“Blood: The Last Vampire” Finally Picked Up for US Distribution

Posted in Movies, World with tags on June 18, 2008 by illdielaughing

So Gianna Jun’s Hollywood debut is finally a real hollywood debut

Blood: The Last Vampire has been picked up by Universal Studios for distribution in the United States, Central and South America and Canada.

Look for Blood in theaters sometime this fall/winter season. Jun will being a promotional tour this July (so says her agency SidusHQ). Jun will no doubt be recognized after a little bit of research as she’s been in two Korean films remade by American production companies (Il Mare into The Lake House and My Sassy Girl into My Sassy Girl).

What do you think of Gianna Jun’s debut? (And who else thinks her English name is kind of lame?)

XIAH JUNSU, WHERE’S YOUR SHIRT????

Posted in Music, World, ^_^ with tags on May 31, 2008 by illdielaughing

AND FAN GIRLS EVERYWHERE ARE DYING FROM ECSTASY.

 xwinax

The Entire Performance

Is it just me or is Junsu awkward with women? Well, to be fair it is some random back up dancer and not Tae Yeon (whoops…) Just kidding, just kidding -_-;
A link to another full performance, in this one you actually see when he throws his shirt off into the distance. http://www.veoh.com/videos/v14075541yQPfwGrA

Junsu without a shirt at the Shanghai “O” concert tonight/today/TIME DIFFERENCE. Junsu is kind of scrawny but I think the reason why this is so sexy is because of his face. I wonder what’s going through his head. (And he’s wet 0.o ) A little side note, his parents were in the audience. I think they had my initial reaction, discomfort and laughter. But now I’m kind of in the giggly, “I saw Xiah’s pecs” phase. We’ll see how long that lasts. Anyway…

So that’s two Dong Bang boys down, still waiting for Chun, Changmin and Jae Joong. I’ll pass on Jae Joong but Changmin, if you could be the next to reveal your abs…. that would be great. Though I doubt that Changmin would ever expose himself like that. He did have his shirt open during a photo shoot once but I think Changmin is the last member to completely rip off his shirt in a dancing fervor.

He might have the best back up dancers ever. Haha, they are dying from his shirtless-ness.

And here are some of the comments left on a Korean website. You don’t even have to know what it says to understand how they feel.

This is pretty much the funniest thing ever. I think it’s a mix of shock, slight discomfort and gratitude for most fans.

What do you think of the latest DBSK member going topless?

Many Singing for Relief in China Quake

Posted in Music, World with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on May 29, 2008 by illdielaughing

Lots of Hallyu stars are banding together and singing to raise money and show their support for the quake victims.

DBSK will be performing at Hongkou Soccer Stadium in Shanghai for the 2008 Shanghai concert on May 31st.

Jackie Chan, whose been all over the Hallyu wave lately, has banded together with JYP to produce a super song with tons of stars (think Michael Jackson’s We are the World). Alex and Horan of Clazziquai (!), Wonder Girls, Chae Yeon, Battle, Brown Eyed Girls, Joo and many other artists were involved in the recording for the song I Love Asia. There are also random-ass “actors” involved in this project like Kim Ah Joong, Park Yong Ha (who can actually act rather well) and Jeong Hye Bin. Most of the actors on the list are people who were singers first like Park Yong Ha and Jeon Hye Bin or people that should just stick to singing, like Kim Ah Joong.

As much as I appreciate what all these artists are doing I know quite a few of them are in it for the publicity or are forced to do it by JYP (Joo, Wonder Girls etc.) But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter why they’re doing it, all that matters is the people that are helped.

Bringing You the Talent

I found another talented Youtuber. This girl’s name is Lee Jung Min and she a 19 year-old from Incheon, South Korea.

Singing Gummy’s 나는. She has a really nice tone to her voice. She sometimes misses a note or hits the wrong one but she has a lot of potential. I also like how you can hear the emotion in her voice.

Check out Jung Min’s Youtube Page for more videos of her singing, dancing (which I don’t like too much), and acting (in Korean so I have very little idea what’s going on lol) at WORLDJUNGMIN. Good luck Jung Min, hopefully you’ll start training with a company soon!

What do you think?

YG Entertainment Goes (more) Viral [EDIT]

Posted in World with tags , , , , , , , on May 15, 2008 by illdielaughing

Sorry for all the YG/Big Bang spam but…

… if you love YG’s artists, Big Bang, Gummy, Se7en etc then subscribe to their brand new Youtube Channel. The first and only video on the channel is Big Bang’s debut single from their 2nd Japanese mini-album, With U. This is probably the smartest thing YG has done in terms of really cheap yet insanely effective promotion. It the 24th most viewed musician page so far today and this is on the American website. This is going to be great promotion for Big Bang and Se7en, they’re both singing in English, Se7en is debuting here… I see American’s “discovering” the Asian talent. Like Charice Pempengco. Did you know that Oprah, The Daily Ten and Ellen all discovered Charice from looking at Coolsmurf’s Star King video?

I really want Big Bang to learn English and debut here.
