Man, this drama is the thing that’s really not good for young minds, forget about Mirotic.

Of course, if you watch Korean dramas long enough you get used to seeing the rampant sexist attitudes towards women. Women are more often than not grabbed by the wrist and dragged from one place to another in this drama. Or if they’re white women they’re sexualized and basically made into accessories (or put on a pedestal), which is something else I’ve gotten used to in Korean dramas and movies. Kind of like how one gets used to see minorities in American films get constantly type cast. In both instances, I’m used to it but it still bothers me and my being used to it doesn’t justify it’s existence. Read more »

Gold Miss and other Korean Variety Shows

I wasn’t going to write about Big Bang Gold Miss Diary, but as I watched it I couldn’t help but wonder why 10 minutes of a half-hour show is spent guessing the women’s ages. This is one of the things that I can’t stand about Korean variety shows, this obsession with youth and the jeering at older women or older men by the younger of the opposite sex. I couldn’t put my finger on it before, exactly what irked me even while I laughed at the antics on Korean shows, but in this post I pretty much go through what it is. Everything seems to be looked at through the lens of how much of a man or a woman you are through the eyes of the opposite sex. So when all of Big Bang guesses how old the women are it’s kind of like going through who’s dateable/doable and who’s not. And likewise, when, say, a member of SNSD guesses the age of an oppa or ajussi like Yoo Jae Suk and Kim Soo Ro, it’s like saying where they stand with these girls.

After the age-guessing bit of Gold Miss they go into “If you go back 10, no, 15 years, who would you approach first?” Once again, we see this idea that a woman is only as good as the man that will have her and vice-versa.  Read more »

Kim Bum gets a nod from the Japanese

TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting Station) is doing a two-part documentary about Hallyu stars in Japan. Bae Yong Joon will be highlighted of course, as will Lee Byun Hun but so will Kim Bum as a rising star. I like Kim Bum alot but….what exactly did he do to deserve this?

He hasn’t done much, just some bit parts and supporting roles. I think this is really an attempt of his management company to get Kim Bum some more steam as he prepares to crossover into Japan. He had a fanmeet in October, so his fanbase is there, but I think there are other stars that have done more than him to be titled “Rising Hallyu Star” or anything of the sort. He’ll get there, because he is talented, but it’s too early.

Erm….

Hyun Joong, you’re supposed to grab the back of her head not the front of her shoulder. Awkward…

picture-1I know a bunch of girls would want to kiss Hyun Joong regardless but do you want to sacrifice quality for a pretty boy? Gu Hye Sun is crying!

I do want to see this drama but it might be for my own superficial love of the F4’s clothing.

Boys Over Flowers Promos

Hah, they all look like such tools I don’t even know what to do with myself. Hyun Joong, as much as I love him looks like he has shrapnel up his butt, as does Kim Beom. Lee Min Ho is sneering well but he is swathed in fur so he looks ridiculous. Love Kim Joon’s outfit, even though he looks like Kermit the Frog.  The sparkly bubble lettering also just takes this poster over the edge. But there’s more good stuff under the cut. Read more »

Jaejoong realizes that acting is hard

I think there’s a common misconception with a lot of singer-turned-actors and actor-wannabes that acting is nothing more than saying things with a certain inflection. But they soon find out that it’s work. And that’s why I generally hate bad actors. It’s not even that they’re bad, it’s that there are so many amazing, heartbreakingly talented and unknown actors that will never get a chance because someone else had bigger boobs or a prettier face or was Kim Jaejoong of DBSK (who fit’s into both former categories).

According to Jaejoong he had a hard time because despite his acting lessons and working with acting coaches it was a lot different than what he thought it would be. The drama, “Postman’s Heaven”, which really just sounds like a sleazy porn, is about a mailman (Jaejoong) that delivers messages between dead and the ones the left on earth. Read more »

Hahah I need to watch this. Is it just me or is everyone in Kpop completely off there freaking rocker now-a-days?

The way they come at their faces is horrifying. Is that how they kiss people? Maybe that’s why Junsu cried, he knocked his teeth against Taeyeon’s (we all know it was her, chillax).

PC Just Owned Mac

I’m a mac user. I love macs. I used to hate them but now I can hardly use a pc without looking like a monkey. I really loved those Mac commercials, Justin Long is funny but…

Come on, that was awesome. They had me at Pharrell Williams. Mac commercials only have Justin Long. PC got N.E.R.D, Tony Parker and Eva Longoria. Come on, I may love macs but I love that PC commercial. I guess it’s tied now, Mac-1 PC-1.
