What a world we live in.

  • hotel-india-burning
INDIA - Terrorist attacks in India. 80 dead and upwards of 250 wounded. Grenades went off and machine guns were fired in Mumbai at two five-star hotels. Notice how terrorism is apart of our everyday lives but no one seems to take it seriously any longer, unless they themselves lose an appendage or a life. NYTimes.

KOREA - Ok So Ri is being accused of adultery, which she is guilty of, but the prosecutors want to give her 18 months in jail. Ok So Ri says that anti-adultery laws are unconstitutional but the court ruled that, nope, it’s not. (Oh but it’s pretty unethical). So she could very well go to jail. Korea, you are archaic, get with it, you can’t put someone in jail for cheating on their husband. So many people do it, she just got caught and her bitter husband wants her to suffer for it (he filed the suit). Korea Times. Read more »

Korea’s Box Office

Posted in Box Office, Seoul with tags , , , , on November 26, 2008 by illdielaughing

November 21st to the 23rd.

portrait-of-a-beauty

This week the film Portrait of a Beauty (미인도), starring Kim Min Seon and Kim Yeong Ho, is number one at the box office with 1.8 million dollars in revenue. The film is about the artist Shin Yun-bok and the hypothesis that he was in fact a SHE. Historically Shin Yun-bok is one of the most prolific painters of the Joseon dynasty and according to the film, she cross dressed as a man to paint.

Antique Bakery (Joo Ji Hoon, Yoo Ah in, Kim Jae Wook) came in at number two with just under a million dollars and the James Bond film Quantum of Solace (Daniel Craig, Dame Judy Dench) was number three with .9 million. Quantum was not as good as the first film but there were things about this one that I liked better than the second. I liked the female character better in this film and I liked the flow better. But overall it was not as fun to watch as the first so my expectations weren’t met but I enjoyed myself.

Coming in at 4th was sci-fi drama Blindness (Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal) with $902,000 and Mark Whalberg’s Max Payne was fifth with $465,000.

Rainism: According to Liz

When I explained the reason for Rainism getting banned and the order for a cleaner version getting issued this is the conversation I had with a coworker and artist extraordinaire, Liz Bohinc.

Liz: Is it really that bad?
Me: Well, he says “my spinning magic stick in your shivering body” or something like that.
Liz: That’s so gross. Is he married?
Me: No.
Liz: Is he gay?
Me: No, he’s just absurd.
Liz: *silence*

If you need more background, Rainism has been deemed “dangerous to teenagers” in it’s current state so Rain will be making a clean version of it.

May 18 [Review]

“Do you know what’s more powerful than guns?…the people”

may-18-poster

Word. This movie is a heavy-handed with it’s sorrow and could use with some subtlety but it is a gem and a strong example of mixing history and humanity. Centering around the Gwangju Democratization Movement the film follows four people that are swept up in the terror that militant leader, Chun Doo Hwan, unleashed on protesting students in Gwangju. He sent armed forces to deal with protests but then someone, this person is still unknown, ordered for the use of gunfire against civilians. The people rose against the violent tyranny of the government.

I’m a sucker for movies like these, I love when people are at their most human, fighting for what they believe in, fighting for the basic human need for freedom. The movie doesn’t leave room for wondering, you know exactly what your supposed to feel and there is no room for ambiguity, which isn’t always a good thing. In this movie, however, there are some images and performances that I will never forget. One image is [SPOLIER!!] a young boy, maybe six, is yelling for his dad, after a few moments his dad picks him up and runs away, as he’s running he gets shot, he and the boy fall and for what seems like ages, the young boy is crying for his father to wake up until another man grabs the child and runs away from the gunfire. ANYBODY can do NOBODY but EVERYBODY should stop

Posted in Music, Seoul with tags , , , on November 18, 2008 by illdielaughing

wondergirls

Anybody is another Nobody remix but with the choruses sung by the Wonder Girls and the verses rapped by Dynamic Duo, SAN E and JYP. Please. Let Nobody die. It’s unfair for you to keep it alive. Pull the plug.

Download here.

I like this song better than the all the other versions but the Wonder Girls sound the worst in this reworking than any other ones. The main plus is that I don’t have to hear that dreadful verse Sohee sings but I’d rather hear that and better vocals from Sunye and Yeeun than the grating singing they do as they try to sound as if they’re yearning for love. And Yoobin totally got played. No rapping for that rapper. Snap.

Thanks to theselooselips for the link! I just had to make sure everyone saw this.

Hahah I need to watch this. Is it just me or is everyone in Kpop completely off there freaking rocker now-a-days?

The way they come at their faces is horrifying. Is that how they kiss people? Maybe that’s why Junsu cried, he knocked his teeth against Taeyeon’s (we all know it was her, chillax).

G-Dragon Working on Solo Album in the US

Posted in Music, NYC, Seoul with tags on November 16, 2008 by illdielaughing

gdragom

And when you get here, G-Dragon, I highly suggest that you come to NYC and take me shopping.

Lol anyway, G-Dragon is heading to the states after Big Bang is done with Remember promotions to work on his solo album. He’s not debuting in the US as a solo act, but all the people he’s working on his music with are in the states right now. I’m guessing he’ll be chilling in California with Teddy and Taebin, but hey, who knows?

Anyway, the solo album will be a mini and hold 6 or 7 songs, according to GDragon. Well, well, well I doubt he’s going to be working with big wigs but we’ll see. As we all know by now YG has a way getting peoples hopes up. There’s also word that the rest of Big Bang might join G-Dragon in the states. I guess there having a little vaca? Interestingly, the last “vacation” that DBSK had was documented for your pleasure and made into a photobook. Man, when will theses idols catch a break?

EDIT: all of Big Bang is going to the states in february for a few months so Its not just GD. The commentors at Seoulbeats pawned my ass lol. The advantages of writing on this smaller blog is that no one bitches about things like this but politely corrects. Anyway, SO BB is going to rest…but improve their dancing and music and work with producers. They’ll be in LA so you Los Angeles VIPs start your stalking.
