“Korean Wedding”

Posted in Movies, NYC, Seoul with tags , on August 2, 2008 by illdielaughing

Kang Hye Jung’s Hollywood debut, that might actually be a good Hollywood debut, is a film called Korean Wedding.

Asian people can make it in Hollywood, men tend to be more type cast that women but it is possible for a man or woman of Asian ethnicity to make a name for themselves. Kang Hye Jung, I think, could be the next person to do so.

Korean wedding is a romantic comedy about a Korean woman and a Caucasian-American man that are getting ready to and get married. Being touted as the Korean My Big Fat Greek Wedding, I think it can be very good and just as much as a sleeper hit. Well, that all hangs on how the writers depict the differences in our cultures, and how they show Korean culture especially.

This project is still in development and is slated to be released in 2010, so we won’t be seeing this one for a while.

Watchmen’s Big Screen Adaptation (And I Mean BIG)

I am SOOOOOO excited to see this movie. (In IMAX!)

I read the graphic novel about a year ago and fell in love, completely in love, with the genius of it. Set in 1980’s New York City Watchmen explores what the world would be like if super heroes really existed. And not just that, but if they existed during the Vietnam War, in the wake of the mess Nixon left and in the midst of America’s social and cultural landscape. It’s the kind of graphic novel that is so good that even people that hate comics can recognize the literary mastery of the writer.

The Dark Knight

Don’t worry, no spoilers.

I don’t want to amp up the movie too much because that happened to me but I’ll just say that I was really happy with this film. I loved Heath Ledger, I know that his part has been overly glorified because of his death but he transformed the role of the joker. He didn’t do a caricature like Jim Carrey and he hit so many more notes of sheer insanity than Jack Nicholson. He was great. Really great.
Surprisingly I loved Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent turned 2-face. His storyline really got to me because Aaron did such a great job portraying Harvey Dent as a really likeable guy, a really good person and it sucks because we all know what he’ll turn into and that there’s no turning back. Karsh Kale’s Live Score for “Enter the Dragon”

Posted in Movies, Music, NYC, ^_^ with tags , , on July 20, 2008 by illdielaughing

Never will I forget last night. I watch Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon for the first time ever. That doesn’t sound exciting but, I watched it in Prospect Park on the biggest outdoor screen in NYC and with a new score performed live by Karsh Kale.

A video of the event I found on Youtube, the main focus is the screen. Thanks to pitibabou for the video. This one’s short but there’s a longer one after the cut.

I think anyone that’s seen a Bruce Lee movie will submit to his power to completely entertain. Even when he’s not fighting, his condescending smirks make my day. Bruce Lee exudes awesome to the max, but so did Karsh Kale’s score. It was electronica, Indian pop and underground, it fit Enter the Dragon really well. Read more »

Feist at Prospect Park

Posted in Music, NYC, ^_^ with tags on July 13, 2008 by illdielaughing

Sorry for my days of absence, I couldn’t have imagined that I’d actually be busy this summer.

But to the main topic, I went to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park to see Feist perform and she was AWESOME. I only knew her song 1234 because of the ipod commercial but all of her music was great and much more upbeat than I expected. Read more »

G-Soul at Solomon’s Porch

Posted in Music, NYC with tags , on July 9, 2008 by illdielaughing

G-Soul can really sing his butt off. I hope that he makes it in the states because he’s really worth the exposure.

JYP’s protege has a ways to go to get his voice where it can be, but he’s a really great talent and I wish the best for him.

Website Promoting “The Dark Knight”

I love viral sites like this.

It’s a fake website promoting Harvey Dent, one of the characters from the new batman movie, The Dark Knight. In the film, and in the Batman comic world, Harvey Dent is Gotham’s district attorney, he later becomes two-face after acid gets thrown on his face.

The site is ibelieveinharveydent.com. Check it out. But remember Gotham and Harvey Dent do not exist.

America’s Best Dance Crew Season 2

Posted in Dance, NYC, ^_^ with tags , on June 21, 2008 by illdielaughing

Oh My.

At first I didn’t think anyone would be as good as Kaba Modern or JabbawockeeZ but all of the crews (except SassX7 and Extreme Dance Force, I don’t know why Distorted X left!) are great. I was really impartial toward Kaba and Jabba in the first season of ABDC. But now, in season 2, I like almost all the crews, but here are four that stood out to me.
