Rainism: According to Liz

When I explained the reason for Rainism getting banned and the order for a cleaner version getting issued this is the conversation I had with a coworker and artist extraordinaire, Liz Bohinc.

Liz: Is it really that bad?
Me: Well, he says “my spinning magic stick in your shivering body” or something like that.
Liz: That’s so gross. Is he married?
Me: No.
Liz: Is he gay?
Me: No, he’s just absurd.
Liz: *silence*

If you need more background, Rainism has been deemed “dangerous to teenagers” in it’s current state so Rain will be making a clean version of it.

I Call it First! [The American Music Awards]

kanyewest

So at the American Music Awards Kanye won for best Rap album and he had a racoon tail pinned to the right back pocket of his jeans. I instantly thought of G-Dragon… Hmm, how many days will it take for G-Dragon to show at an event with the same accessory pinned to his butt? If it does happen I so called it first.

I liked Kanye’s speech by the way. “I wanna be Elvis,” he said. Haha, unfortunately his latest album 808s and Heartbreak is really bad, so we’ll see if that happens. (By the way his performance of Heartless was horrible, due mostly to the fact that he can not sing for his life and not even autotune can fix this). Thank God the AMA’s gave him two awards this year (it’s based completely on a poll of music buyers) because no one can forget the crybaby stomping his feet baby after he lost the AMA for best new artist and the VMA last year.

Hmm, I wonder if he knows that the VMA’s is completely dependent on polls. Damn, Kanye, CHILLAX. To be fair he’s apologized for his tantrums and he’s been much humbler this year. Which is a good thing because as I mentioned before his latest album is pretty abysmal.

Queen Latifah rapped again! During a great performance with Kathleen Battle and Alicia Keys Queen Latifah came out rapping and sang as well. I can hardly remember back in the nineties when she was still rapping. She’s become a great actress and singer and to see her rap again was so nice. Ahh, I loved it.

Anyway, I was just going to write about Kanye West and his tail but I went on a tangent.

ANYBODY can do NOBODY but EVERYBODY should stop

wondergirls

Anybody is another Nobody remix but with the choruses sung by the Wonder Girls and the verses rapped by Dynamic Duo, SAN E and JYP. Please. Let Nobody die. It’s unfair for you to keep it alive. Pull the plug.

Download here.

I like this song better than the all the other versions but the Wonder Girls sound the worst in this reworking than any other ones. The main plus is that I don’t have to hear that dreadful verse Sohee sings but I’d rather hear that and better vocals from Sunye and Yeeun than the grating singing they do as they try to sound as if they’re yearning for love. And Yoobin totally got played. No rapping for that rapper. Snap.

G-Dragon Working on Solo Album in the US

Posted in Music, NYC, Seoul with tags on November 16, 2008 by illdielaughing

gdragom

And when you get here, G-Dragon, I highly suggest that you come to NYC and take me shopping.

Lol anyway, G-Dragon is heading to the states after Big Bang is done with Remember promotions to work on his solo album. He’s not debuting in the US as a solo act, but all the people he’s working on his music with are in the states right now. I’m guessing he’ll be chilling in California with Teddy and Taebin, but hey, who knows?

Anyway, the solo album will be a mini and hold 6 or 7 songs, according to GDragon. Well, well, well I doubt he’s going to be working with big wigs but we’ll see. As we all know by now YG has a way getting peoples hopes up. There’s also word that the rest of Big Bang might join G-Dragon in the states. I guess there having a little vaca? Interestingly, the last “vacation” that DBSK had was documented for your pleasure and made into a photobook. Man, when will theses idols catch a break?

EDIT: all of Big Bang is going to the states in february for a few months so Its not just GD. The commentors at Seoulbeats pawned my ass lol. The advantages of writing on this smaller blog is that no one bitches about things like this but politely corrects. Anyway, SO BB is going to rest…but improve their dancing and music and work with producers. They’ll be in LA so you Los Angeles VIPs start your stalking.

Music I Like: The Hip-Hop/R&B Edition

Posted in Music, ^_^ on November 13, 2008 by illdielaughing

In lieu of all this bad American mainstream hiphop stuff I keep hearing I decided to post some of my favorite hiphop/rap/R&B songs. And they’re all mainstream. These are just random ones I thought of on the spot and it doesn’t show my all time faves but songs I recognize as being worth listening to and that I really enjoy.

Here are 11, 6 are Hiphop/Rap and 4 are R&B and another is sort of Hip-pop:

Eve feat. Faith Evans Love Is Blind (1999)- Heart-breaking song about Eve’s friend that was in an abusive relationship that ended tragically. The music video, when I first saw it back in ‘99 made me cry.
(Also great from Eve is Let Me Blow Your Mind and Gangsta Lovin’ ft Alicia Keys).

Black Eyed Peas Let’s Get it Started (2005) - So well produced, great fun song. Even in a light-hearted song like this BEP manages to be intelligent (despite the fact that the uncensored version of the song is Let’s Get Retarded) (Also great from BEP is Shut Up and Don’t Phunk With My Heart)

Missy Elliot I’m Really Hot (2004) - Hot beat, and the music video is hilarious. Krumping, Japanese yakuza drama and a jazzy dance break, what more do you need? (Also check out Why You All in My Grill and Gossip Folk if only because in the intro someone says “I heard that bitch got hit by three zebras and a monkey, I ain’t like that bitch no way.” Come on, guys that funny, right? lol)

My Last Will and Testament

big-bang_number-1

I just posted this on soompi, against my better judgement. G-Dragon, in the picture above is saying, “SHH! You shouldn’t have said anything!”

I think I’m going to offend some people with this comment so i’ll just preface it by saying “Sorry.”
Anyway, I love Big Bang but they are not the second coming and they are not the hottest thing to come out of Korea, especially not in terms of hiphop. This “new genre” of music Big Bang showed is not new, it’s called pop music. Kanye and G-Dragon are not on the same level, lets not even go there.
Seriously I do like Big Bang, Hot Issue was a fresh minialbum and thats why I love them but I think their latest Korean album is a jarble of techno and hiphop beats for the most part. They aren’t really a hiphop group anymore, they’re a pop group that wears hipster hiphop-ish clothing and is heavily influenced by hiphop, rap etc.

I’m not really offended to hear you call American hiphop a joke so much as confused because if you listen to shi.tty music then it’s going to be a joke. If you listen to some good American hiphop then maybe you’ll realize that it’s not America’s “fault”, but yours for listening to Flo Rida when you could be listening to Lupe Fiasco, Pharell Williams, The Neptunes, Gnarles Barkley ETC I sound harsh but there’s no other way to put it frankly.

Also, you do realize that Big Bang has sang and rapped about maybe 3 different things since they’ve debuted? Breaking up, sex and… money… Honestly, I really cant stand when people try to put down the American industry because they can’t find good music in it.

ANYWAY, here’s why I like Big Bang
They have good music for the most part (recently they’ve been slipping)
They have good singers and good rappers
Did I mention they have good rappers? In pop music in Korea thats a rarity
They can dance and they aren’t afraid of women lol

And here are some pictures of nice looking things so that you all don’t come looking for me and tar and feather me.

I know I shouldn’t have but sometimes I read something that irks me so much I must respond. Anyway, in lieu of this I’ve decided to write my last will and testament because I know…they will find me.
To Amy, at Popfestast, I leave this blog.
To Ellie, I leave the camera we use to shoot Seoulbeats Weekly (don’t forget to give it back to NYU before Winter break!).
To the VIPs I’ve offended I leave my scratched and tirelessly listened to Hot Issue mini-album. I also leave my The Great Concert DVD.
To my readers, I leave my itunes playlist.
