Star Trek is Awesome

May it live long and prosper. I’m not a Trekkie. My mom is and I make fun of her for it, well that is until I watched Star Trek, the latest film, something of a reboot of the franchise, by J.J Abrams. First, I love J.J. Abrams, he takes sci-fi and situates into the realm of reality flawlessly (for the most part) and he never fails in creating emotional attachment between the viewer and the characters. Chris Pine as the new Captain Kirk is smexy and rugged, Zachary Quinto as Spock is awesome, Zoe Saldana as Uhura is gorgeous, John Cho as Sulu is the bomb and everyone Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, Eric Bana…GOLD. J.J as director makes my life worth living. Haha, an overstatement but this movie has restored my faith in the Hollywood blockbuster. (My faith had left completely after seeing the mess that was Wolverine).

Great acting, great direction, great music (though a tad overused), great special effects, great sound design, greats use of lens flares, of all things. Great movie. I’ll write a proper review when I’m not fangirling.

For now here’s a HILARIOUS interview with Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and an uber Star Trek fan.

“The Good, The Bad, The Weird” [Review]

This film is beautiful, hilarious and has convinced me that Lee Byung Hun is attractive. I didn’t think a movie could be so many things.

Set in 1930’s Manchuria, this “Kimchi Western”, based on the Italian “spaghetti western” The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, surrounds a treasure map and the various groups and individuals that are out to find it and the supposed treasure. The main focus, of course, is The Good, bounty hunter Park Do Won, The Bad, crazy killer Park Chang Yi and The Weird, petty thief Yoon Tae Goo. Also involved in the chase is the Japanese army, Korean independence fighters and what seems to be roaming Chinese nomads. Read more »

Some Like it Hot

Posted in Movie, Seoul with tags , on December 8, 2007 by illdielaughing

A while ago I wanted to post about the upcoming movie “Some Like it Hot”…. I never got around to it, but now that there’s a trailer for it out, and the release date is next month (January 17th), there is no reason not to. The alternative title is “Hellcats”…. uhmm… Yeah, I don’t think the official english title has been announced yet.

Ahn So Hee is only fifteen…Why is she holding a man like that?

The movie stars Lee Mi Sook, Kim Min Hee, Kim Hyung Soo, Kim Sung Soo and Ahn So Hee in her debut role.
The Movie will be directed by Kwon Chil In (it’s his second feature. His first feature was Singles [2003]).

Does anyone else love the Park Myung Soo imitation at :13?

The movie is about Young Mi, played by Lee Mi Sook, a woman in her forties with an active love life and a demanding work life. She is a single mother raising her daughter and dealing with her depressed sister. Her depressed sister, the twenty-something Ami, played by Kim Min Hee, has to choose between two men, one of them is Kim sung soo (Full House). Gang Ae, the teenage daughter is played by Ahn So Hee who, because of her mother and aunt, is rather precocious. I also heard Kim Beom is in this movie… Hmm, I really want to see it. The movie is supposed to represent romance at three different times in a womans life: teens, 20’s and 40’s.

There is hardly any info about this movie on the internet. I will find as much as possible and post more soon!

Happy Birthday Jun Ji Hyun

Happy Birthday.

photo39733.jpg

She is famous for her roles in Il Mare, My Sassy Girl and Windstruck…but besides that nothing else she’s done has made waves. But maybe her next movie will?

I loved My Sassy Girl but I hated her character, she was so annoying. As an actress Jun Ji Hyun was great but Cha Tae Hyun stole the show. He was so great. Moving on…

She is staring in Syoopeomaenieotteon Sanai which means, The man who was once Superman. It’s basically about a producer, Jun Ji Hyun, that is making a documentary about her neighbor, Hwang Jeong Min,who thinks he’s Superman. The movie is directed by Jeong Yoon Cheol.

Back in a comedy, I hope it’s good.
