It’s the first time I won’t be eating turkey and the first time I won’t be with either my mother or father this thanksgiving. I’m hanging out with my Taiwanese friend and she’s doing Korean barbecue. And then a bunch of us are going to play mahjong.

When I explained the reason for Rainism getting banned and the order for a cleaner version getting issued this is the conversation I had with a coworker and artist extraordinaire, Liz Bohinc.
Liz: Is it really that bad?
Me: Well, he says “my spinning magic stick in your shivering body” or something like that.
Liz: That’s so gross. Is he married?
Me: No.
Liz: Is he gay?
Me: No, he’s just absurd.
Liz: *silence*
If you need more background, Rainism has been deemed “dangerous to teenagers” in it’s current state so Rain will be making a clean version of it.
So at the American Music Awards Kanye won for best Rap album and he had a racoon tail pinned to the right back pocket of his jeans. I instantly thought of G-Dragon… Hmm, how many days will it take for G-Dragon to show at an event with the same accessory pinned to his butt? If it does happen I so called it first.
I liked Kanye’s speech by the way. “I wanna be Elvis,” he said. Haha, unfortunately his latest album 808s and Heartbreak is really bad, so we’ll see if that happens. (By the way his performance of Heartless was horrible, due mostly to the fact that he can not sing for his life and not even autotune can fix this). Thank God the AMA’s gave him two awards this year (it’s based completely on a poll of music buyers) because no one can forget the crybaby stomping his feet baby after he lost the AMA for best new artist and the VMA last year.
Hmm, I wonder if he knows that the VMA’s is completely dependent on polls. Damn, Kanye, CHILLAX. To be fair he’s apologized for his tantrums and he’s been much humbler this year. Which is a good thing because as I mentioned before his latest album is pretty abysmal.
Queen Latifah rapped again! During a great performance with Kathleen Battle and Alicia Keys Queen Latifah came out rapping and sang as well. I can hardly remember back in the nineties when she was still rapping. She’s become a great actress and singer and to see her rap again was so nice. Ahh, I loved it.
Anyway, I was just going to write about Kanye West and his tail but I went on a tangent.
Hyunjoong does a ridiculous noodle commercial.
Haha, I really don’t know what’s going on with this one. But it’s okay because HyunJoong is always fun to look and laugh at.
“Do you know what’s more powerful than guns?…the people”
Word. This movie is a heavy-handed with it’s sorrow and could use with some subtlety but it is a gem and a strong example of mixing history and humanity. Centering around the Gwangju Democratization Movement the film follows four people that are swept up in the terror that militant leader, Chun Doo Hwan, unleashed on protesting students in Gwangju. He sent armed forces to deal with protests but then someone, this person is still unknown, ordered for the use of gunfire against civilians. The people rose against the violent tyranny of the government.
I’m a sucker for movies like these, I love when people are at their most human, fighting for what they believe in, fighting for the basic human need for freedom. The movie doesn’t leave room for wondering, you know exactly what your supposed to feel and there is no room for ambiguity, which isn’t always a good thing. In this movie, however, there are some images and performances that I will never forget. One image is [SPOLIER!!] a young boy, maybe six, is yelling for his dad, after a few moments his dad picks him up and runs away, as he’s running he gets shot, he and the boy fall and for what seems like ages, the young boy is crying for his father to wake up until another man grabs the child and runs away from the gunfire. Connie Chan, the girl I work with at school, and animator extraordinaire, saw this picture of G-Dragon at the MKMF and said these things:
“Is that a woman?”
“He looks like a tranny…specifically, a woman to man tranny.”
“That just ain’t right.”
Regarding the eyeliner. ”Yo, that fad was over 5 years ago.”
In less gender confused news, G-Dragon was also featured on the cover of Arena magazine along with Ha Jung Woo, Kim Ji Woon and Jung Wook Joon among others (credit: lanladay).

Well, well, well. The MKMF was last night an people have their panties in the twist or are way too excited about nothing. But I do love award shows. Even though I think the MTV awards and MKMF are crap I watch them because they’re entertaining.
Here’s a brief recap of what happened.
Scandalous
TOP kissed Hyori, the build-up was better than the actual kiss, which, to my knowledge, is not how these sorts of things should go. That kiss was so fast and TOP booked it afterwards. But still, the kiss was excellent if only because in Korea it’s such a big deal and fangirls all over the world are dying and the fact that he had the NERVE to do it. It’s great. The rest of the performance was nice, except… Hyori was so unnecessary it’s mind-boggling. I like her but she is not the best live singer. When TOP, G-dragon and Taeyang were performing with Hyori all I could think was, Oh, the fat’s been trimmed off of BIg Bang. (Except I do love Daesung). But then they showed up later. Seungri, to be frank, sounded bad when he sang that remix. Anywho, G-Dragon looked good and that was a huge relief. They all looked good actually but the red carpet was a different scenario.
When they get into Hyori’s 10 Minutes all I’m wondering is, Why is G-Dragon singing…AGAIN? This needs to end as soon as possible. But worse than that…is Hyori rapping… …. …. Why? But Hyori deserves major props for dancing in those heels. U Go Girl, seriously.

Well, I think it’s a pretty crappy proposition and I think it’s a shame that this kind of blatant discrimination has been passed in California. I also think that the ban on gay marriage in 2 other states is a disgrace to this country. We may not be as bad other countries where even being gay is illegal but we should have enough sense that we can recognize that taking away the rights of gays to marry is unconstitutional and unethical.
