Epik High’s Umbrella MV

Epik High has recently released the music video for their song Umbrella (ft. Younha)

Epik High always has interesting music videos, like the great video they had for their song Fan or their depressing video for One and the controversial, banned video for Breakdown. So I was expecting something really great and interesting. Though I think the MV’s for Breakdown and Fan were superior (the latter being the best) this video is very interesting in it’s own right. The concepts in the MV are good but some of them aren’t executed well enough. But the music video is still nice, the lyrics are beautiful, Yoonha’s voice is so great. Tablo’s uber bangs are also really great in this music video.

I love Epik High for the amount of quality music they produce and for the innovation behind what they do. No matter what it is, their music, their CD cover art, their music videos, they always do something interesting and thought provoking, very artistic. My favorite shot in this video is of Tablo being rained on in his apartment as he lays on his bed.

What do you think of Epik High’s Umbrella MV?

I liked certain parts of it, but somehow it was a little lacking. I can’t put my finger on what I didn’t click with; maybe what “annoyed” me the most was the random change from “real life” to “cartoon world.” I don’t really know what kind of message that was supposed to send, but all I got was confusion. STILL, it was a great video. I just didn’t love it like SOME I’ve seen.

Yeah I agree those transitions were sloppy and jarring. And it seemed to not fit the mood of the song or video at all.

I’m just glad we have singers like Epik High in kpop.
