Jin Goo is a Slasher Near You

Posted in Movies, Seoul with tags on July 31, 2008 by illdielaughing

Jin Goo, of All In and A Dirty Carnival fame, is set to star as a serial killer in his new film.

Jin Goo as Kim Young Ho fights against Cheol Min, a truck driver played by Park Hae Jin. Jin Goo’s character shows the good and bad in one person and the film tries to explain the mind of a serial killer. The plot of the film concerns Young Ho pursuing Cheol Min as he tries to dump the bodies of the people he’s killed.

Truck is directed by Kwon Hyung Jin and produced by Sidus HQ. It will be released in September.

I currently watched Jin Goo (with Jo In Seong and Lee Bo Young) in the one hundredth episode of Come to Play . At frst I found him kind of full of himself, but I love how blunt he is. Watch part one, of episode one of the two part special below.

SBS Fails at Life

Posted in Rant, WTF?, World with tags on July 31, 2008 by illdielaughing

SBS insists on embarassing themselves.

First they make Youtube take down all videos of the shows that air on their network. (They have every right to do this, but unless they sub their dramas and variety shows, it shouldn’t matter if English speakers are watching subbed SBS shows on Youtube. We wouldn’t be watching their shows when they broadcast anyway). Then they leak secret video of the Olympic Opening Ceremony rehearsal with the knowledge that they are not allowed capture video.

The organizers of the rehearsals didn’t do double checks on whether or not people had cameras but they warned people against taking picture or video and they were stopping people from taking pictures in the front row. So SBS knew they had footage that was illegal to show. It’s one thing if someone just leaked it online, but it’s a whole other thing if they use it on their news program.

Personally, I don’t really care about the opening ceremony and I don’t think that seeing the rehearsals is going to ruin the opening ceremony for people that do care. But I do feel that SBS was indecent and they’ve shown their complete lack of regard for professionalism and the integrity of journalism.

Watchmen’s Big Screen Adaptation (And I Mean BIG)

I am SOOOOOO excited to see this movie. (In IMAX!)

I read the graphic novel about a year ago and fell in love, completely in love, with the genius of it. Set in 1980’s New York City Watchmen explores what the world would be like if super heroes really existed. And not just that, but if they existed during the Vietnam War, in the wake of the mess Nixon left and in the midst of America’s social and cultural landscape. It’s the kind of graphic novel that is so good that even people that hate comics can recognize the literary mastery of the writer.

Choi Ji-Woo in “Lovers in Asuka”

Posted in Seoul, TV, Tokyo with tags on July 30, 2008 by illdielaughing

The overrated Choi Ji Woo is set star in the joint Korea-Japan production of Lovers in Asuka

This production is really a vehicle for the Hallyu Wave and since the Hallyu wave first hit Japan full force in Choi Ji Woo and Bae Yong Joon’s melodrama Winter Sonata Choi Ji Woo is the obvious choice to star in this drama. The shooting starts in September in Nara prefecture, Kansai and Choi Ji Woo is clearing her schedule to prepare. I’m confused as to how much you have to do to cry on cue.

Look for this drama in December.

Go Hyun Jung in “You Don’t Even Know”

Hong Sang Soo directs Go Hyun Jung in the movie You Don’t Even Know.

I love Go Hyun Jung. After seeing her in What’s Up, Fox? I found her to be completely adorable and charismatic, and a really good actress. Her new movie, You Don’t Even Know, which starts filming in August, concerns a movie director that goes on journey, which I’m sure concludes in some coming-of-age moment. This is the first project Go is doing since she wrapped the drama H.I.T last year.

Not much else is known about the movie but I’m excited to see Go Hyun Jung on screen again!

Johnny’s Entertainment Threatened by DBSK

Posted in Music, Tokyo, WTF? with tags , on July 29, 2008 by illdielaughing

We knew this.

But now we know for a fact that Music Station isn’t allowing DBSK on as guests. Music Station wasn’t explicitly stated by the source, S-Diary (a blog by a Japanese staff member of DBSK), but it’s been inferred by the things he’s written about the issue of DBSK not being allowed on certain shows.

This just reflects why my Japanese friends hate the Japanese music industry. Johnny’s controls way too much, they know that pre-teen and young teen girls have little to no common sense, bad taste in music (let’s be honest with ourselves guys, you remember the days -_- ) and a strange obsession with malnourished pretty boys. Johnny’s, who only lets boys into his entertainment company for that very reason, controls the boyband music scene and casts a lot of their boys in dramas (like the miscast Maou). I generally see Johnny as this guy that grossly overestimates his importance and can not deal with competition, especially legitimate competition like DBSK. Read more »

Jun Jin in a Fivesome?

Posted in ^_^ on July 29, 2008 by illdielaughing

I’m kidding, I’m kidding but, in light of Ohno’s alleged threesome, that’s what I thought about when I heard of Jun Jin’s new reality show.

Shinhwa’s most self-serious member, Jun Jin, is set to star in a reality show in which he has to raise four high school girls. He has to get a job to support himself and his “children”. Superstar Jun Jin work? I think he’ll just dance to Wa on the side of the street and put a hat out. Read more »

Lolitas, Threesomes and Fobby Engrish: News Bites

Posted in Seoul, Tokyo, WTF?, ^_^ with tags , , , , , on July 28, 2008 by illdielaughing

Slow couple of days, but some stuff has happened that I have to blab about.

  • I, unfortunately, saw So Hee’s ass while watching her perform to Beyonce’s Freakum Dress for her adoring young female fans and pedophile male fans. Yay for fifteen year-olds asking other people to get their freakum dress on and yay for little people with dumpling faces trying to entice her fans with very nearly flashing her vagina. (Don’t worry, I’m sure she’s wearing underwear).
  • Han Geng is going to star in a Chinese drama. Good for him.
  • Jun Jin passed out from overworking yesterday. I think Korean entertainers should relax and stop working so much, especially if they make crappy music.
  • Seo Taiji is making a comeback–or on his way back. July 29th sees the release of the first single from his 8th album, Foetus. Wonder what that means. Go to Seotaiji.com. He’s giving away tickets.
  • I’m writing for Seoulbeats! Look forward to my articles there under the penname “illdielaughing”.
  • “World Star” Rain is releasing an album in Asia in october. This will be his first album away from JYP. I don’t know how that’s going to sound but I wish him luck because his “world star” status is, well, a lie. In related news, Rain had the nerve to dance with hair like this. Rain, please, you are not some cowboy on the frontier, come back to your senses and dress with some panache. (And stop doing interviews in English!
I love how his translator sneakily tells him what the person is saying in Korean. My favorite question and answer? Interviewer: “Did you learn any German?”  Rain: “It was beautiful. Yeah.”
  • Japanese boyband Arashi’s Satoshi Ohno is being accused of smoking marijuana and having a threesome–by a Japanese trash mag. People are going crazy, fans are crying, police are threatening to arrest him, Johnny is passing an elephant. Guys, relax. There is no proof besides pictures of Ohno, fully-clothed, with two girls. This seems like a stupid rumor created by assholes and even if it was true…who cares? (Yes, I know marijuana is oh-my-god huge in Japan). What’s sad though is that whether or not it’s true this news is getting pretty international. I first read about it here
Well, news is rather depressing isn’t it?

Happy Birthday, Lee Min Woo!

Posted in ^_^ on July 28, 2008 by illdielaughing

The artist formerly known as Shinhwa’s Lee Min Woo, held a fan meeting yesterday in Seoul to celebrate his 29th birthday. Today, however, is his birthday.

Min Woo and his Shinhwa boys had their ten year anniversary this year and later this year all eligible are entering the military. (Shin Hye Sung is exempt). But before he does that he’s having his fourth album release concert on August 23rd. Below are some more pictures from his birthday celebration.

Seo In Young’s “Cinderella” MV

Posted in Music, Seoul with tags on July 27, 2008 by illdielaughing

Hehe, Seo In Young, I prefer you in Jewelry.

I’m a few days late with this, but I couldn’t bring myself to watch it. Baby, One More Time was catchy but no good and Seo In Young’s solo single Cinderella is a mess of Techno confusion. What is with the gurgling singing that’s going on here? And the guy with the ponytail? And the disco moves in the very beginning? Has the world gone mad? Whether she’s singing or talking she sounds like she’s whining. It kills me. Not that I don’t like her. I think she’s a generally obnoxious person in We Got Married but I haven’t an opinion on her for the most part. But this song… GAH.

“Hip-hop” version, they call it. No, this is still pop.

Thanks Seo In Young, my ears are still bleeding.
