Bringing You the Talent

I found an English cover of SHINee’s song Replay. The girl is Lisa and she not only wrote English lyrics but put it on guitar.

“Sweet September”

Posted in Movies, Seoul with tags , on June 22, 2008 by illdielaughing

Daniel Henney and Kim Ha Neul star in the experimental romantic film, Sweet September. The movie is composed entirely of photographs like the French-film La Jettée. La Jettée came out in 1962, it was a story set in Post-WWIII Paris and it concerns a man that is forced to go back in time for food, supplies etc. La Jettée is a film classic, even though it’s all pictures the way it was shot is absolute genius and it isn’t boring for a second. (It’s also 28 minutes long, not a feature length film). And then there’s that unforgettable ending.

In terms of Sweet September (which keeps making me think of the Keanu Reeves, Charlize Theron film, Sweet November) it took 6 months to film and over 100 photographers to photograph. I really don’t understand why they need that many photographers. Thats a new photographer every other day. Is that necessary? The film is supposedly supposed to be released this year on August 20th.

I’m a bit worried about Sweet September. It is the first Korean film of it’s kind, so it has novelty on it’s side but I really don’t think that Daniel Henney is a good enough actor to sustain the right emotion in this type of project. I know he’s good-looking but he’s never been an amazing actor and if you want people to be compelled by this sort of movie and stay focused, you need an actor that’s compelling.

I’m a Kim Ha Neul believer after seeing her in On Air. I’m sorry to all you Henney lovers but I’ve always been skeptical of him. I’m very open to him changing my mind because I do like him outside of his so-so acting (especially since he can now speak Korean haha).

What do you think of Sweet September?

EDIT: According to Daum this film will be released in Elle Korea’s September volume. I’m confused about this project, but they want us to be, we’ll find out about this project when it comes out!

Daniel Henney has Learned Korean!

According to Kim Sun Ah on the June 2nd episode of Come and Play.

The cast of Kim Sun Ah’s newest film Girl Scout (Kim Sun Ah,Lee Kyung Shil and Kim Eun Joo/Go Jun Hee) was on the show. Coincidentally, I’m watching the Ko Hyun Jung, Chun Jung Myung drama What’s Up, Fox? which also stars Kim Eun Joo (though since the release of Girl Scout she has changed her name to Go Joon Hee, which coincidentally was the name of her character in What’s Up, Fox? ).

Anywho, at around 7:25 of the above video, Sun Ah says that Henney’s English is pretty good but sometimes he forgets to be polite and it jars her a bit. Thank goodness Henney has gotten better at Korean, because that accent of his was not doing it for me before.

TOP in W Magazine

Posted in Magazine, Seoul with tags , on June 21, 2008 by illdielaughing

TOP of Big Bang, has been doing a lot of solo modeling work lately. Which seems strange because he’s not the sickly thin and pale proto-type for most male models lately. But that’s why I love that he’s in W Magazine this month.

This spread is dark and eerie. It’s highly stylized but I’m not feeling it that much. I think TOP looks great, minus the guyliner. More pics after the jump.  Read more »

I think only Yunho can be geeky and campy but also ghetto at the same time. He’s wearing a pink bandana and a fitted. I love it because it cracks me up.

America’s Best Dance Crew Season 2

Oh My.

At first I didn’t think anyone would be as good as Kaba Modern or JabbawockeeZ but all of the crews (except SassX7 and Extreme Dance Force, I don’t know why Distorted X left!) are great. I was really impartial toward Kaba and Jabba in the first season of ABDC. But now, in season 2, I like almost all the crews, but here are four that stood out to me.

SHINee LIVE on Madam B Lounge

Posted in Music, Seoul, ^_^ with tags on June 21, 2008 by illdielaughing

I can’t not like these guys. Age and questionable attire aside they have really nice voices. I think I like them even more because I’m surprised at how talented they actually are. I’ll be the first to admit that I was completely unfair to them in the beginning because I still do have my boyband prejudice (and my friends hate SHINee haha). Anywho, these are live performances from the  June 15th airing of Mnet’s Madame B Salon.

This is my favorite SHINee song, In My Room. Onew’s voice starts it off and I had no idea it was him before I watched this. (Well, to be honest, the only voice I can distinguish is Jong Hyun’s) Jong Hyun is a great singer but I realized how nice Onew and Key’s voices were, especially Onew. (And I also realized how handsome Key is. These Dongsangs are pretty mature looking. Except Onew looks younger than he is (18).)
Something about this performance made me feel as if Jong Hyun takes life way too seriously, but in a way that amuses me. The faces he makes when he’s about to sing are hilarious, he looks like he’s about to eat the microphone before he starts his lines, and then at the end he looks like he’s about to kiss/make love to his mic. Relax, Jong Hyun. BUT PLEASE SOMEONE NOTICE how they all stop singing at the end and stand like they’re in the military and/or have a stick up their butt. I was cracking up. Anyway, only Onew, Jong Hyun and Key sing this song which works really well.  Read more »

Aigoo…. DBSK’s Newest Single

Posted in Music, Tokyo with tags on June 21, 2008 by illdielaughing

The single isn’t called “aigoo”, that’s just my general response to this 14 second preview.

This is a preview of どうして君を好きになってしまったんだろう PV. Translated it means something like, “why did I fall in love with you?” (How does one answer such a question?)

Now, you know how much I love them, but there times when I just don’t understand what the heck they’re doing.

This song, I can’t tell if I like or not. But I know that I certainly did not enjoy Yoochun’s pining-for-love face nor did I enjoy Jae Joong and Yoochun’s mercilessly tight pants. I know people keep rewatching this preview because they love it so much. I keep rewatching it to figure out what is going on.

In general, I don’t hate the song, it’s growing on me and I think the lyrics are nice but I’m sure I’ll prefer this live because I can not stand that synthesized voice crap.

In terms of the video I think they all look good (though Yoochun looks so much better with short hair) but I’m just a bit turned off by how much of a boy band they are. I want them to be more interesting musicians and come out with better music. The whole standing in a room and singing to the wisps of ether is really played out and they do it so much.

I have this feeling I’m overreacting to this 14 seconds of boyband glory. Please feel free to disagree.

SHINee in Elle Korea is a disaster.

This is so cracktastic.

Rainbow Vomit? Or David’s Technicolor coat (on LSD)?

Jong Hyun is so badass but he looks absolutely ridiculous. And the other one (name???) looks like a scared child. Noona, give him some candy.

What do you think of the Elle Korea shoot?

Around the Town

Posted in Around the Town, NYC with tags on June 20, 2008 by illdielaughing

Paris Hilton was in Koreatown tonight. Leaving a restaurant and/or Karaoke bar at around midnight tonight. I went to this restaurant (in Ktown) with my friends and another one of our friends came to meet us and he said he saw Paris Hilton driving down in an Escalade. We laughed it off but then we went to get to a supermarket in Ktown for ice cream. We saw this crowd in front of the restaurant/karaoke place and we asked why they were there. This guy told me. “Paris Hilton”. Then I said a bit too loudly, “I don’t really like her that much”, after which the women to my right started laughing her ass off.

My friends and I then left, got our ice cream and when we came back out Paris was exiting the restaurant/karaoke place. There were like 4 actual paparazzi there. and about 10 or 12 regular people.

What do I have to show for this encounter? Not much. I didn’t think to take a picture of her, but one of my friends did with his phone, he sent it to my phone but it’s horrible quality. When I figure out how to get it off my phone and onto the computer I’ll post the crappy picture for you guys to see.

(P.S. after seeing Paris Hilton in the flesh, I must say she’s shorter than I thought, not as pretty as I thought, though she is pretty, and about 10 times more full of herself than I ever imagined a person would be. She had such an air of arrogance. But this was just my perception, I’m not trying to trash talk.)
