Not Even SM wanted Hyori

I find this… not surprising.

Even though I think the music that comes out of SM can be very uninventive and tacky, they’re smart enough to choose people that have strong dance skills or strong vocals. SM may squander their talent after they enter the company but at least they have it to begin with. But let’s be honest Hyori didn’t get famous because she had a voice like Younha or dance moves like Hyoyeon, she’s famous based solely on her “sexy” image and on the music talented producers made for her.

It’s a shame though, Hyori mentioned this on an episode of her reality show “Off the Rec”, seems she still hasn’t gotten over it. But look to the bright side, you’re one of the richest entertainers in Korea!

I don’t know about everyone in SM having strong vocals or strong dancing……
I feel like I can name a few right off the bat who are pretty mediocre…. :/

I know after I published I forgot that I wasn’t thinking about super junior…. Not that everyone in SuJu is untalented but…
Yeah, I’ll just give SM the benefit of the doubt

i honestly believe that everyone who’s in sm ranges in the good enough to very strong in vocals and the same for dancing. what they do when they’re freestyling/showing off is another thing. sm’s not as much a celebrity as jyp so i’m sure he doesn’t talk about this but i’m sure they follow the same sort of thinking — they pick people for their agency who are hardworking, and not for their innate abilities in either dancing or singing. because you can train to be good at both of those things. someone who has glaringly weak vocals despite training, off the top of my head, is hangeng or eunhyuk. but they have other qualities that allow them to prosper at what they do. ideally, someone would be good at dancing AND singing, but if they’re not, they’re very good in one area. and this is an idol management company, so really, it’s enough.

I guess that’s true. The good enough part definitely keep a few people in lol.
JYP is different from SM though, he picks people based on “drive” first then “talent” as you can tell from the existence of So Hee.

How’d you know I was thinking of Suju? lol :p

I don’t think they’re different in that sense. Because otherwise, there’d be a bunch of people in SM who wouldn’t be there just, because talent isn’t enough. How many of them have trained for like 7+ years? And there are still tons of trainees who haven’t debuted. I think that SM picks hardworkers over people who can succeed merely because of talent. Yunho definitely is more of a hardworker than he is a natural anything — whether it be singing or dancing. I’m inclined to think his dancing from the start has been better than his singing, but he still trained to become as good as he is with both of them now. (Though he could tone it down with the crazy showing off, as we can see from the Jae/Yunho/Tiff Haptic CF. Criiiinge.)

JYP goes to an extreme though.
I mean there will literally be no talent but because of their drive and I guess image JYP will pick them. I don’t think there are any SM people as bad as So Hee. (not to keep picking on her but she’s the best example I have -_-; )

  8. Amy Says:

You’re right, I have to agree about Sohee. Even after all this training, she still can’t sing for shit. At least all the other members can do it, even if only half-heartedly. Oh, it’s so sad, the case about Sohee -_-

lol hyori should be grateful..if she was accepted she might have ended up in some project group pretending to be a virgin. for eg.. hyoyeon who has a great sexy image and dancing skills is forced to act, sing and dance like a preschooler plus the whole lollypop thing..such a waste of talent! at least hyori got to utilize her sexiness, eventhough she is an average singer and dancer.

Hyori ROCKS!!! It’s SM’s loss! Look at her now, she’s at the top of her game being the highest paid female singer! And she’s got cf deals left and right! She’s also hosting great shows and she’s become a korean icon!

i dont really care much about these 2 entertainments!!! I think they choose artist mostly based on image cuz i like some of their artist bcuz just like a lot of people said theyre cute, adorable, handsome, whatsoever n’ not solely in2 their music whatever!!! but anyway, like i said i dont care much, do whatever they want,..but i do appreciate their “hardwork”!, mayb “effort” is much better?
