La Dolce Vita • Bittersweet Life

I tried to watch this drama, I really did, but I had to stop 21 minutes in. I’ll tell you why.

I started watching La Dolce Vita or Bittersweet Life and I liked the look of it immediately. The darkness, the rain, the overhead shot.

Then we move down and meet our first character, an old, sick detective about to retire. He’s going to a crime scene. It’s a suicide. The suicide of Lee Dong Wook’s character, Lee Joon Soo. (This is not a spoiler, we find this out in the first 2 minutes).

We flash back 6 months earlier, Yoon Hye Jin, our female lead, is in Hokkaido, she bumps into Joon Soo and he basically imposes himself upon her and hitches a ride to a place called Otaru. Hye Jin is in a crappy marriage, they didn’t marry for love and her hubby is having an affair. Joon Soo is going to Otaru to… and this is where I had to start skimming… he’s going to Otaru to dig up the body of his friend that was lost in the snow–last year. I started skimming because that just didn’t make any sense to me so I go ahead a bit, I see Hye Jin’s husband with a younger woman, skim forward some more and I see Joon Soo in the snow digging then falling onto his back and smiling. Then he starts yelling, “you didn’t die! you flew into the sky!”

And I was done. I can tell that this 24 episode long drama is going to be a harrowing 24 hours and I don’t think it’s good to start my summer with depressed, crazy people and suicide so I’ll pass.

In other drama news. Goong is playing on Imaginasian tv every weekday at 1pm, I really like it so far. I started Last Scandal, it’s alright, I’m still trying to get into it… maybe I should watch the second episode… I’m still watching On Air, or really waiting for subs! Last but not least I’ve given in to Kang Jeok or Rivals. All of the series I’m watching right now, I feel are worth watching. For the record, I am no longer watching Bittersweet Life

I passed right after reading the synopsis….shame, I like LDW too….

Anyhow, are you going to blog Rivals? I haven’t started it yet…..I just finished “Who Are You” yesterday night (in the wee hours of the morning…I hate myself!) and I’m suddenly feeling a huge, huge void….

No, I think Amy over at Popfestfast! is doing that. And I’m also really lazy about capping. I tried with On Air but as you can see I abandoned that one lol

duuuuuude, they start by telling you that lee dong wook’s character commits suicide and then they do the whole “6 years ago [back when his character WAS alive...]“? WORST STORYTELLING TECHNIQUE EVER.

Yeah, it’s ridiculous. The story is just dull on top of it.

it’s just too soon to make a conclusion…. but i think this drama’s approach is quite different from those that we have seen before which are quite predictable.
i should say, let’s continue watching till the end….
Its a risk and challenge for Lee Dong Wook to have acted in this drama.
    I’ll stand by him !!!!

Ahh, I thought the synopsis made it out to be boring, but I was kind of hoping someone would say it was good. But this makes me REALLY not want to watch it lol.

AH, I love Goong. It can be kind of cheesy, but it’s really addicting and satisfying.

It’s just very soap opera-y but maybe it’ll get better?
