YG’s Girl Group

YG has created a girl group, he has called them the female Big Bang but only because he didn’t know how else to describe them. In the group will be CL, the rapper that performed with the YG family at the SBS Music Awards, Park Bom, who was in an Anycall commercial with Lee Hyori, and Gong Min Ji.

Their debut album is slated to be released this summer. I don’t know how I feel about them though. SM tried to do the “female DBSK” with The Grace, but though they’re talented, they are no were near as successful as DBSK. And YG is known for being rather lacking when it comes to marketing their females artists. We’ll see how they do, they’ll debut around July and they’ll have some help from G-dragon, whose producing some of their music.

These girls are really talented so all there is to worry about is if they’ll be original and likable. We know CL can rap from seeing her at the SBS Music awards. Park Bom can sing. She has a really strong voice and she writes and produces some of her music.

And Gong Min Ji is a pretty good dancer. She’s got the attitude and the confidence and she can obviously dance but someone should tell her that dancing is not all about the hair before she gives herself whiplash.

I think CL is 17, Park Bom is 25 and Gong Min Ji is 15. That’s interesting if these ages are true. I think Gong Min Ji is a bit too young to be overworked in the Idol machine and Park Bom is their Unni by almost a decade. But from the fourth picture up there it seems like they’re all getting along fine. I’m actually pretty excited, they’re not too big (member wise) and they all have different things that they can bring to the group.

No word on the name yet.

I fully admit that each girl brings a talent to the group……but I can’t get over how totally, completely, and utterly MISMATCHED it looks.

Call me shallow but I just don’t see that appealing chemistry coming from them together…..I much rather support having each debut solo when she is ready. Gong Min Ji seeeeriously looks like a little kid still. Sure there’s other young girls out there (So Hee comes to mind) but at least they look a little bit more mature and ready. If anything, I don’t want to see such a cute little girl like Min Ji being thrown into a group and having to play the oversexualized, raunchy card because the older members can.

Although I have my doubts, I hope YG smartens up with this group’s development and marketing once they debut. Like you said, YG has a dismal record when it comes to female artists but I wish this group the best.

Min Ji seems so ready to be a video ho though lol. I just hopes all that attitude goes into making her a great performer.
