He proposed publicly even though he’s never met her… am I the only one that thinks this is weird?

Wang Ki Chun is the 20 year-old Judo genius that is helping represent Korea in this summer’s Beijing Olympics. “I will marry Yoo Bin if I win the Olympic gold medal,” says Ki Chun. I think this is both funny and very telling of Korean society. Does he really think that winning an Olympic gold medal and confessing publicly to a girl he’s never met will secure her hand in marriage? I hope he’s kidding and not that disillusioned. But he seems really serious. I can’t imagine why he would publicly “confess” to Yoo Bin unless he lost a bet, has a great sense of humor, or honestly wants to marry her. Ki Chun also says, “Will I be lacking something if I propose to Yoo Bin publicly?” Well, if he knew her, no. But seeing as they’ve never met… He could have just said he had a crush on her, people do that all the time, but a serious proposal? What do you think of this? I really don’t know what to say.
