FTW…WTF? (Love/Hate Relationship with For The World)
Big Bang, You lost me at, bein’ inside you is so heaven in my heart.
Currently having a love/hate relationship with For the World. Let’s start with the “hate”, shall we? (Well, hate is a strong word it’s more like…dislike or distaste(?)
In Big Bang’s Japanese album For the World, they took beats from some of their past songs and then wrote different lyrics for them (except for Lies, only the chorus is in English) so some of the song titles were changed accordingly. I was really happy with Big Bang’s For the World album…. but I realized that some of their lyrics were, how shall I put this, rather silly. In English, the guys sound really good but the lyrics are killing me. The albums writing and producing is credited to Big Bang and Perry, so fans who are perturbed by some of the lyrics can’t pretend that Big Bang had no idea what they were saying. –> From How Gee: “Suckas walkin’ around talkin’ all’at bologna, damn homie you phony!” Bologna… And the vid for How Gee is slightly depressing.

More love…. after the jump
If someone would take out the random half dressed girls lounging on cars & “shaking it” and the persistent images of champagne, it would be a good MV because it definitely shows the Big Bang style. But this makes me wary of the rest of the Japanese PVs.
But it doesn’t end there, in Together Forever there is the oh-so-irritating phrase in the chorus, “I’m so sprung”. (Damn you T-Pain!) This is also the song in which Dae Sung says “Being inside you is so heaven in my heart…” If the sentence made sense I wouldn’t have minded so much the whole “being inside you” issue. I think what threw me off was that the beginning of the song is pretty tame, “All of my life I’ve been searchin for that one” and “As I look above thankful for your love…” etc. But then something happens and suddenly Dae Sung is inside some girl and G-dragon is saying,
“Yo, listen
I love you down in every way
It doesn’t matter baby everyday
From the bottom to the top have it’cho way (Alluding to McDonald’s on purpose?)
It’s all about the way you feel baby
Wanna make it like ecstasy
To where you’re sayin’ my name softly
And we can take it down south baby (Oh…Really?)
Any freakin’ route as long as you and I can be as one, hey”
So, I mean, this song is essentially about sex, now that I get it I’m not so perturbed. But Dae Sung really brought that “inside you” thing from left field. And the “I’m so sprung” has got. to. go. Moving on, for some reason TOP introduces himself in EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. And he spells T-O-P in EVERY. SINGLE. SONG. If I ever meet him I’ll have to thank him for teaching me how to spell it.
In the end, it’s not that much but it bothers me because I feel like it takes the originality away from Big Bang that I love. Sometimes I feel like the lyrics are attempts to sound like American hip-hop and rap and it would kill me if Big Bang lost the originality they had gained with songs like Last Farewell and Lies.
Now the LOOOVE
Even though some of their lyrics are silly and funny in the way they aren’t supposed to be it’s a good album and I only heard 2 or 3 instances of Engrish which makes me really happy.

The boys have grown up. The animal suits may not be put in the closet but YG knows the Japanese hiphop/rap market. I think so far they’re doing a pretty good job of keeping Big Bang true to themselves but they may be pushing a line. (I mean, has Dae Sung ever said anything, anywhere near the lines of “being inside you is so heaven in my heart”?) But there are things I can certainly believe. Like in Together Forever, G-Dragon’s rap…I was laughing so hard when I was listening to this, not because I thought it was bad but I was having that middle school reaction of, “Oh my, they’re talking about s-e-x!” <—in whispers. In America, it’s whatever but in Korea I feel like idol group’s young fans get all flustered about it and only expect them to sing about juvenile love. I mean if a group is full of people that are grown (above 19 is pretty damn grown to me (maybe I’m being precocious?)) want to talk about sex then… I mean, let them talk about it. (Seungri, you have a few more years though, which, I’m assuming, is why he doesn’t singDae Sung’s “inside you” line…okay, I’m done with that line but I can’t wait for the PV for this song. What are they going to do?)
On a more personal note: Sometimes I wonder if I like something just because it’s in Korean, like, I’m sometimes not sure if someone can actually rap, or if it sounds good because it’s not in English. (I know, it’s wierd) But after hearing Big Bang in English, and understanding ever word they say when they say it, I am confident in their abilities. And I have to say, G-Dragon sounds really good in English, (Maybe I’m just affected by his Together Forever rap?)

“Sometimes I wonder if I like something just because it’s in Korean, like, I’m sometimes not sure if someone can actually rap, or if it sounds good because it’s not in English.”
I totally agree with that.
This made me laugh soooo much because those are some of the reactions I was having to this album. I can’t get over how funny it to hear some of the things they say. Once they start singing things like, “she would always like to ride my pony,” I feel all seriousness leaves the building.
They’re pretty darn good at English though.

Big bang lost their innocence I have to say… The rap where alright… I only listened to ‘Always’ and I had a good time… laughing. at some point i just left my laptop because I had no idea what Top was saying in his rap mainly… I wonder why they didn’t sing in Japanese tough. I mean they are selling this Album in Japan and Japanese are more interested in people who are interested in their language and stuff. Maybe they are confident about their fan base?
It just makes me laugh when they go gangsta and say stuff like ‘thugs & suckas’ lmfao and yet they don’t know what they are talking about * my friend will probably laugh to death*

This is yet naother reaosn why I don’t want them to debut in America. I’ve noticed that thei standard might be considered a bit low over here. When G-Dragon had to rap, freestyle actually, to a nuna (on some type of x-mas special) and just raped a few lines from Kanye West song. That would have never really made it over here. Plus, a lot of their lyrics don’t make sense…like the ones you mentioned. I really hope they work on their analogies and wording if they plan on continuing with that stuff, haha.
I personally think they sang their Japanese album in English because they want to debut in the west…but that’s not really appealing to their J-fans, is it?
I’m curious as to why they are trying to be “thugs” and rap about sex (considering most, if not all of them, are probably virgins). My friends who are still in Korea (and the few that are here in The States) were shocked at Seungri’s Strong Baby MV..i’m sure they are secretly flustered over the lyrics too (that’s assuming if they understand them).
I personally perfer the nice innocent (yet extremaly hot boys) I use to know…not the all grown and sexed up K-boys of tomorrow.
