Zhang Li Yin… It’s about Time.

She can finally sing Timeless live! It’s been a year but hey, that girl has a beautiful voice and it pained me (and slightly amused me) to see her mess up so much in the earlier performances. You’ve already heard my frustrations about her voice and that song so I won’t go into that again but I’l just say that, though the performance isn’t perfect it is so much better.

I was really nervous listening to this. I was waiting to see if she would come in right on the harmony in the first chorus. She did. Then I listened to see if she would make it through her bumby verse. She did. And then those notes at the end… Even though, at times, she sounded as if she was about to cry she pulled through and sang the song well.

What I didn’t understand about her performance of Timeless was why she was so nervous. Especially when she looks so confident in this video:

But in this video she was in China, singing in Chinese and when she sings Timeless with Xiah, it’s in Korean. She is still very uncomfortable being an artist in Korea and I partially blame SM for that but Li Yin also needs to hurry up and get comfortable because she debuted a year ago. It’s unfortunate that SM made her debut before the got a hold on Korean and it’s rather annoying that they had her debut a year ago and she still hasn’t put out an album.

Anyway, this was about how much I loved Zhang Li Yin’s performance of Timeless. Oh and By the way, this is from Dong Bang Shin Ki’s “O” concert in Malasia yesterday (I think it was yesterday).

What in God’s name is Xiah wearing? He looks like Neo…colors inverted. And Li Yin looks nervous, even in this picture.
But they both have the voices of angels…

  1. She actually sang the Korean version of “Why” in the first half of that Beijing version and then sang the Chinese version of “Magic Castle”. I think on top of the language thing, it also has to do with duetting with Junsu in general. You’ve got a lot to go up against when you’re singing with that guy, he’s friggin’ master of holding notes and singing everything that Timeless requires and I can definitely see her being nervous about that. Hell, I’d be nervous just standing around Junsu, forget about singing a song that requires so much of a singer’s vocal range o_o;

  2. I agree with Amy..Although Junsu gave her an advantage because he’s already an established, successful, and obvious talented singer, he made her sound terrible… But I mean, honestly, if you’re a singer, than you should be able to sing, regardless. At least that’s the way I see it; I don’t give respect to singers unless it’s deserved. She’s definitely gotten better, but I think she’s a little too much sometimes… And she slurs her words, but her pronunciation’s pretty good for someone who’s not Korean… And I’d definitely like to see her in the performance more… Like really feeling the music. She seemed a little distracted in the second clip. She was doing a whole bunch of motions but her eyes were looking away and she didn’t really seem like she was there… but definitely a tremendous improvement from before!
