Hotaru no Hikari
You’re profile is destroying my spinal marrow. (<– Best drama quote ever)

I was having a hard time finding a Japanese drama that I actually liked and one that didn’t have anything to do with terminal ilnesses, dying children or ridiculous love polygons. I found that in the drama Hotaru no Hikari or Glow of the Firefly. It’s a comedy and like most Japanese drama comedies is overly dramatic and the humor is juvenile and physical but, there is also smart humor in the show and good characters. I started watching this drama about a month ago and then stopped half way through the series because I was getting annoyed with it but, today I finally finished it and I’m glad I did.

Hotaru no Hikari is about a young woman, Amemiya, that works at a famous interior designing company. She lives in a nice modest house but that house is owned by her bosses parents. So when her boss is in the middle of a divorce and has no where else to go (or is too stubborn to go elsewhere) they end up cohabiting. And then enter Amemiya’s love interest Makoto–who came to the company after a brief stint in Europe. So basically they have to hid the fact that they are living together from everyone in the office including Makoto.

What I like about this drama is that there isn’t any foreshadowing of future relationships and what not, it seems very natural in it’s progression. There of course is a love triangle (a love star it turns out) but it is dealt with modestly and with out the ridiculously bitchy third wheel woman and/or man. The drama is just really funny and touching (which surprised me). You should watch it and if you get sick of it at around episode five don’t worry, it gets better.
Superficial Note:
(Everyone is just so cute in this drama. The main guys (even the older one) are so adorable).
