Henry AKA Not the fourteenth member of SuJU

Posted in Music, Seoul with tags , on September 22, 2007 by illdielaughing

I know people went INSANE when they saw this awesome kid in the new Super Junior video. I mean, I’m in love with him and I haven’t even fully seen his face yet. Anyway, here is some info on the boy who is hot news.
HenryViolin

He went to the audition in Toronto and was recruited by SM there. He is of Taiwanese descent but he doesn’t speak very much Chinese as he was raised in Toronto.

Check him out in Toronto, before his big debut. He’s playing the song, “Storm” by Vanessa Mae, which may be why I like him even more because I LOVE that song and Vanessa Mae…anyway, the video:

And if, like me, you only like Henry’s part of the Don’t Don music video, some genius made a clip of just him. Yay:

I am pretty excited to see what the else this kid can do… This is the first time since DBSK that I’ve been excited about anything coming out of SM. :)
But… I hope, I really hope that this kid isn’t going to try and work in Korea and not know Korean… I hear he’s close with Kangin so maybe he does?…
What do you guys think of Mr. Henry the violin boy.

Super Junior…

So they have this new concept. Which seems to simply be there new hairstyles and a supposedly “bad boy” attitude. Check out the photo shoot for there second album, Don’t Don

and this is their first single off the second album titled Don’t Don

YAWN… boring. We’ve seen this many times before. I don’t blame the boys though, SM Entertainment needs to step up their game. They’re making Super Junior sound like a bad, oversized version of DBSK.
BTW, was anyone elsed jarred by the inordinate amount of pelvic thrusting in this?

BUT the best part of this video? The SM trainee Henry (he’s the dancing violinist in the MV). Wow, he’s talented.

Well… what do you think?

Kokujin Tensai

Kokujin Tensai
The hot underground sensation in Japan this summer was American, Memphis-born Eric Koffi, better known as Kokujin Tensai with literally means Black Genius. Now don’t get offended too soon, it’s name that Koffi coined for himself but isn’t that a bit wierd? Why would someone walk around saying their a black genius? or a white geniu? or an asian genius for that matter? Hah. Anyway…

This 22 year-old kid started out rapping in Japanese in his bedroom and he slowly, through word of mouth, became an hit in the underground hip-hop scene in Japan. Eventually, he was contacted by an indie label in Japan and he made the big trip out there. I’m not the biggest fan of rap because of the sluts-and-hoes-and-booze-and-partying recycled garbage that you hear over and over again.

This kid though has even invented words. His most recent one is a word that describes a girl’s butt flapping… (It’s always great to know what new things a person’s ass can do…) So he combined the Japanese words for ass and flap and called it a day. Hence you get Ketsutobi.

I have to admit after listening to the chorus of this song a couple of times…it’s gets my head bopping.

This is all great and interesting but I think that if this kid was rapping in english, no on would care. It’s just exciting to see an African-American rapping in Japanese. Regardless, I wish him the best of luck. It’s always nice to see people stepping over cultural boundaries. He is most famous for his hilarious use of the Japanese language.

So, What do you guys think? Worth the hype?

His album is called Clubz Thugz Sex Drugz… basically an example of why I hate most rap.

KCM
Earlier this year KCM’s two digital singles and his duet Gashiri with SG Wannabe quickly gained him many fans and now KCM is hopping over to Japan. According to KBS Global, KCM is also going to have an unofficial fanmeet and then officialy start his official Japanese fansite. Sounds very exciting. He has a nice voice.

Do you think he can make it in Japan?

Yoo Seung Joon came back…and nobody seems to care.

Yoo Seung Joon has released his first album in six years simultaneously in Korea, China, Japan and seven other countries in Asia. He is best known for leaving Korea and getting US citizenship in order to escape the two year mandatory military service there. So…he is still barred from the country and this may be the reason why he has two mixes for his album. The Korean mix which is in Korean and the “Asia” mix is sung half in Korean and half in Chinese.

He’s been on hiatus for six years. When you think about it, he should have just completed his military service and he could have been back on the scene sooner. He also wouldn’t be banned from his home country or seen as a punk.

Well, will this album be any good? Anybody heard it yet? What do you think?

Japan’s Box Office

Trailer for Hero(2007)

The movie Hero(2007) is number one at the Box Office in Japan. The film, which stars Kimura Takuya (who you may have seen in the Wong Kar Wai film 2046), is a movie sequel to the 2001 drama of the same name. Hero the drama was about a brilliant yet casually-dressed and offbeat prosecutor that is transfered to a Tokyo office. In the drama he falls in love with his assisstant who eventually become a prosecutor as well as fall in love with him. Okay, typical drama set up but it was very, very popular. The movie invloves him reprising his role (obviously) and he makes a trip to Korea to do some investigating.
Interestingly, this movie stars Hallyu star Lee Byung Hun. You may have seen him in the drama All In or his 2004 movie Everybody has Secrets

Number two in the box office is the anime film Eva: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone. It’s the first of four Evangelion movies. The next one Evangelion: 2.0 will be released in 2008.
Eva: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

Number four was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (which underwhelmed me at best).

Lee Seung Ki at Number One

Sorry Wheesung.
But Lee Sung Ki’s single Nice Lie or White Lie took the number one spot.

But it’s okay, he only dropped down to number two.

Who do you think is better?

Korea’s Box Office

This week My Father moved down to the number five spot and the Hollywood film The Bourne Ultimatum took the number one spot. Now, if you haven’t seen this movie, it’s awesome, so please… go see it. Moving on, the comedy Kidnapping Granny K was number two.
GrannyK
This movie is about three guys who kidnap “Granny K” and ask her four rich children for a ransom of 50,000 dollars. Granny K raises the ransom to 50 million to get the money that her kids refuse to pay. Sounds simple. Maybe it’s funny? But the reason I’d see this movie? The hottie Yoo Gun. I fell in love with him after watching the ajumma drama Bad Couple.
YooGun
Isn’t he a cutie? :)

At number three was the Jung Ryeo Won comedy about a girl with a split pesonality disorder who tortures her boyfriend called Two Faces of my Girlfriend

And thankfully, D-War has moved to the ten spot… why oh why are people seeing this horrible movie?
