SM Entertainment Global Auditions
SM Trainees not only train but they are also lowly workers at SM world auditions. More on that later.
I went to the Flushing, Queens audition today with a friend. I wasn’t auditioning, I was emotional support : ). We got there about 45 minutes before the auditions officially opened.
The wierdest thing was that it was inside an auto place. Don’t ask, I have no idea. And it was much smaller than I thought it was going to be. I thought there would be a line around the block but it was just a large group of people. Anyway, inside you got free poster of SM artists and there was a tv playing MV’s from SM artists like, The Grace, DBSK, Super Junior etc.
It was mostly girls and some guys, none of them looked like SM material though but I guess they will after years of training and plastic surgery? Who knows?
Moving on, they went in and came out so fast. They auditioned in groups of five and they were only in there for about 10-15 minutes TOPS.
And what I was talking about in my first sentence. The trainees were working at the auditions. They registered people and called out numbers. I thought that was interesting. And you know what very special trainee I saw today? Henry Lau AKA the violin boy AKA not the 14th member of Super Junior.
Well, I didn’t even recognize the kid at first, mostly because all of the pictures of him hide his face, but this group of girls was squealing about him next to me. Edit: But I’m hearing that it wasn’t Henry. But I know I definitely saw Stella Kim doing work.
So that was my time at the SM World Auditions in Flushing.
Did any of you guys go? How’d you do?

stella kim was the one that was at the front desk and really tall.. well i know i did horrible because i was unprepared and it was like one of those last minute things so yeh.. wat you thought about the auditions? =)

i read his profile on a forum and it said his singin is as amazing as his singing. i think if he debuts he will mainly be focused on his dancing and singing skills and i guess the violin was jus to be a feature of suju’s mv. i dunt think violin and break dancing together will make much sucess solo or group for a long period of time.

this might be random but i was at the auditions as well and didn’t recognize henry at all ^^;;
i did happen to take a picture of a guy that i thought was cute that was working there and though i can’t really tell i was wondering if maybe it was henry?

Uhh….this is like madd late. But yea, I went. I didn’t c Henry or Stella Kim. (idk, mayb I did, but didn’t reconize them) The audition people said they would e-mail u the results within a month. Well, the audition was held on 9/30/07 but now it’s 11/1/07 and I still didn’t get the resuts. = [
idk……I guess I just hafta wait. I know I probably didn’t make it, but it was just a really cool experience. ^^
P.S some of the guys there were HOTTTTT ^_^

no henry does not have any acnes..he has very pale white skin..and he was born in canada. so in this case he would speak fluent english. my friends went to the same school as him…

well i was kinda late on finding out about the sm auditions but if i heard about it earlier i definately would have wanted to try out. can you guys tell me what the audition was like? did you have to sing in korean? is english fine? do you have to know how to speak korean? cuz i dont haha

You guys good luck to you if you guys are auditioning for SM. They’re so SUPER STRICT about your looks and stuff…I think they want all their singers, models, etc… to have that kind of fake beauty this is why I am not auditioning for SM. but whatever. However, I am going to audition for Sony though. Aja aja Aja fighting!!

i think for SM entertainment, they look at your skills first of all, then your appearance and honestly, if you’re not good looking or dont have “potential” (meaning going under the knife) then you’re pretty much screwed

hihi.. i was wondering.. if u pick singing in the application form.. will they force u to dance too? i’m really scared of dancing in front of ppl.. n i’m freaking out after reading the forums n all this sm town audition thingy.. are the judges scary or nice? .. i’m starting to diet now.. for the SAKE of the audition.. n they choose u cuz of ur looks? n even have to take plastic surgery when u r a trainnie? wow.. that’s scary..

I’m pretty sure I read on the website, any ASIAN allowed to audition and then it lists Asian races.
Kinda racist I guess, but come on now, it’s awkward having like White/African-American/Indian/Italian/Etc. being in groups in Asia.

Any Asian could audition; that means if you’re Thai, Hmong, Khmer, etc. I think you could be half-Asian too. And IDK about “looks”. Sometimes SM Entertainment only picks those who are different from others (never before seen talent !!!) ..unless you want to become a model. I don’t know when the 2008 Global Auditions are, but you can learn more information about joining @ SMTOWN.COM (their official site !!) and click “About Audition” on the side menu. omg this is so exciting but i would never dare to audition…cannot take the mental capacity challange … and ofc emotional…but i would luv to try coz i can sing and i’ve learnt hip hop for like 5 yrs…hopefully would be adequate for SM…the bad thing is that u gotta be a trainee for like few years…and plastic surgery!! do u get to get on with ur school life? oh and someone pls tell me wot u gotta do for the audition? wot are the requirements?

PLASTIC SURGERY ISNT REQUIRED FOR EVERYONE!!!!!
just because you’re a trainee, they won’t make you get under the knife.
some of the stars of SM looks exactly the same as they did in the past.
believe me, i personally know some of them. [not saying names]
some actually looked the same as they did when they were training, despite the fact that they matured and went through puberty.
if a feature or charasteristic did not meet their standards
then they suggest you taking surgery
its just up to YOU to make the choice
they wont force you but
i heard THEY ARE STRICT because there was this one person
because of his “looks”, they wont let him debut
and kept him in training for more than 8 yrs!
believe me, he’s got talent
WONDERFUL GREAT talent but according
to the talent agency his face doesnt satisfy them.

well. ive been to the SM Global audition 2007 in US. i was wondering where and when the 2008 SM audition is going to be ..or is there even an audition this year??
well ive been to the auditions, and for some ppl that are wondering bout the requirements. it was in the home page : http://www.smtown.com
The requirements briefly is that pick a song that you can sing comfortably and that fits your voice well. Many girls pick songs by SeeYa or Ivy because most of their songs show a lot of power in their voices and the songs are difficult to begin with–trying to get favors of the judges. if you can’t sing the specific song very well. dont plan on doing it even if the reason i have listed is what you are going for. usually korean ppl who audition pick a korean song as their main song, then prepare a eng. song as their second. usually at the audition, if your singing is good, or if the judges think so, they will ask you to sing another song<-thats when you sing the song you have prepared 2nd. Thats the singing part. For the dancing, depending on how many ppl that are at the audition at that time, you will have to dance a solo to a random music or all of the ppl that are lined up may dance all together at once. Do not mistaken!! You may prepare your own song and your own dance if you are confident. its just like a regular performance, however all of you who audition will have to dance together or alone, usually after the singing part of the audition is done.
i do not know if the auditions are a lot diff in korea n other countries, but this was what happened last year in US. i have not been accepted,so i do not know what will happen next. but what may happen.
personally, i wasnt prepared last year so this year, hopefully i perform better this year..if theres even an audition..

there is no word on a global SM audition this year. If their is news I will definitely write a post about it.

omg, i can’t believe that was henry….he was calling for my number i didn’t know he was calling B-123 ……but when i said omg that’s me….so i touched him and told him umm your calling for B-123 then he said oh yeah your in a next group…..i was like he’s so hot….and i just realized that was him……
hmmmm i only got the tvxq and super junior poster, i didn’t like boa back then…..
that was a good experience my 1st audition…..im looking forward for the 2008 sm audition….and im so ready for that, im gonna sing and dance…..

I tried emailing SM about allowing non-Asians to audition, but they haven’t replied. This was about a year ago, too. I’ve heard rumors about an Italian-American guy passing through the audition in LA last year, but of course it could be just a rumor. I’m actually Italian-American myself, so I don’t want to show up at auditions and be like, “What? You mean white people can’t join?” after I fly across the country to audition^^

hihi.
i’m actualy thinking about auditioning this year [[ 2008]] this is an old blog lol. i dont know this is my first time auditioning for anything. i dont know. i’m stiil debating if i should. people say that even if you sign up for singing they make you dance on the spot…im ok at dancing just not freestyle like they expect. and i heard the process to be a trainnee is tough like every week they choose only four ppl and ppl vote on who and other three get eleimatened and this process repeats for 3 more weeks until there are 4 finals lefts and they judges choose.
and i also read that they make you go through rounds..i mean just one was heart attacking enough you know.
Plus i heard they go by alot on looks and bodyness….and idk….i been singing for 8 years but the last two are the ones that really count…i’m only in the 2ND highest chior in my school…so idk

oh boy.. oh boy…. oh gosh…
i’m getting uber nervous now… uhhh ^^ where did you hear that they’re doing individual auditions?
Oh gosh… i really just wanted to audition just to see how it is and then really do it next year… but they make you dance if you’re singing? oh gosh…. i’m sure i COULD try and dance… even though i never really took dance lessons… but… oh gosh… i’m pretty young and even though my voice isn’t so developed… i wonder OH GOSH. hahahhahahaha

just relax and breathe
NO INDIVIDUAL AUDITIONING!!!!
because they have a tight schedule and they
rather get the thing over with and go
theyre trring to see if you can dance and carry a tune
if you sing GREAT and you dance moderately
YOURE GOOD
if you dance GREAT but sing moderately
YOURE STILL GOOD!
theyre also looking for looks
so if you think you can WOW them, then go for it!

for dancing, however, im not sure
i think you can freestyle, choreograph, or group dance
but they ask you to sing a verse of a song

get a BACK UP song because they might
be interested in you so they want you to
sing more.
and dont dress too nice
because you will have to dance
so dress comfortably

hello peepz! I’m Bruneian. Brunei is located in south east asia, therefore, I’m an asian. There aren’t any sm auditions here, even if there is, i won’t be able to participate due to my religion and parents. I don’t think my parents will allow me to be an artist. Plus, i heard that most sm artists had to delay their university studies. My parents will totally won’t allow that. For them, education comes first. Lately, my desire of being an sm artist is getting stronger.

yeah
if theyre interested in you then they ask you to sing or dance again
they take 10 people in at a time in a small room
there was 2 judges (although my previous friends said that they were very prejudiced)
i hardly doubt that theyre interested in me because they seem more interested in another girl whose singing was very GOOD! if i do get a callback (i WISH) then i can tell you unless they(the company) tell me that i cant….for some reason….
i have a few…about 3-4 friends
2 of which im not very close with and the others i seldomly talk to, because theyre busy
except when theyre taking rests and breaks, they try to go to internet cafes and talk to us there but i guess theyre too busy
not all sm trainees debut
some just stayed there for more than 10 yrs and still dont get a chance

um.. i’m going to audition in 2009 for the first time… I have a couple questions:
1). Out of all those many applicants, how many do the judges pick to sign a contract?
2). If you are selected, how many years of training do you usually undergo?
3). Are the judges Korean?
4). If you sing OK and dance OK-ish (not that much) but you look pretty cute, you think there’s a chance?
5). So they don’t call you for weeks to let you know if you’re chosen or not.. don’t they still email you right away to let you know your status or something?
6). Would you rather audition for SM or JYP?
I know it’s a lot of questions… but please help me out =) !

1. it depends on the judges. if they really want them, then they pick them despite the number of people.
2. if you are selected they give you years of training
but the amount basically depends on how you develop your skills. if you are good and improving then your training years are most likely to be short but if you need help on your singing or dancing or anything then that might take a while.
3. the judges are korean hencce the company being korean. unless you audition in other countries like china or japan then they have judges from different branches.
4. they are basically looking for talent and looks at the same time but if you think theres a chance then GOOD LUCK!
5. they only contact you if you make it. if they dont want you then they wont contact you in any way.
6. i would rather audition for SM because i like their creativity and ideas
i also listen to their artists the most
the only artists i listen to from JYP are WonderGirls.

well, they picked 10 teams, so there was about 15 people?
there was a some kind of korean festival thing, so they wanted
everyone who made it threw the first round to sing a song at the stage.
they picked the winners of that challenge, but i heard it doesnt really matter who wins? because its not really an sm entertainment thing.

We didnt even get to dance at the end. The judge was so rude, she cut everybody in my group.

hey~ someone i no auditioned for singing. She said she made a mistake cause she was so nervous though…but then the judge told her to re-try about three times, and she was still nervous so told her to hum it. I guess it’s not good she made a mistake but then again the judged showed interest?? ><

hey guys..;; um.. yeah last year i was picked to sing in the korean festival..after the sm audition.. but i never got a callback from them… even after..like..now.. so this year i re-auditioned.. i know its minimum of 4 weeks–a month. and when u say minimum, it also means like it can take a little longer.. but not past 2 months..i guess???

even if you get a callback, that doesnt mean or promise you that you can sign a contract and train in SM entertainment. my friends got callbacks but they didnt make it in. these other people who didnt get callbacks made it in.
so if you geta callback you can get in too. just maybe they thought that they made a mistake when they saw you in your callback performance. they probably changed their minds.

then you take a number
when they call your group
like “NUMBERS 11-20, COME ON UP!”
then you go to this room with a few judges,
depending on your area.
and you ding or do whatever you are there for.
when everyone is finished
they call you up as a group and
play a random song
and they make all of you dance
….freestyle.

basically- not trying to be offensive- the younger the better
so they can establish a younger idol to attract the younger crowd
plus because the younger you are, the faster it can take you to absorb the training procedure and if youre young, it doesnt matter if it takes you a few years to train, because once you debut, youre still young
unlike people who are already like 19 and they debut when theyre 20-something
which is ok but
they prefer younger so i guess…..

Hey, guys. I’m planning to go to the the ‘O9 Audition ( hopefully there will be one) and sing.
I just have some questions. Hopefully I can get anwsers… ^^;
1. Do you have to sing individually? Or two people can sing together? o.o; Because my friend and I are kind of like a duo. >__<; And we usually sing together. ( Plus, I’m way way too nervous to sing alone… )
2. What is the age limit? I’m about 12 ( turning 13 SOON xD ) years old. Very young I know… but lots of kids have good voices.. right? My friend is currently 14/15 years old. But that’s not bad… I think.
3. Okay… I’m more worried about this one.. Do we HAVE to dance? I’ll be very honest, and this will probably be the biggest downfall for my audition, but I can’t dance for beans. T__T Not bragging or anything, but I can sing but… not dance. …Oh my gosh, if they make me dance though… I’ll probably just stand there like frozen or something..
4. If I CAN’T sing with my friend… I know this sounds all pathetic… but can a parent/guardian/etc. watch you audition? I mean, I gain ALOT of support from my mum, and she REALLY loves seeing me perform. ( As you can see, I HATE being alone )
5. Another thing, will they actually criticize you like right on the spot? Like totally rant about all your mistakes, downfall, or whatever? But do they also talk about your good points? Things you did good on, some advice?
I know it’s alot. And I actually have ALOT more. But… Hopefully these questions can be anwsered first before I go on.

1. so far LA has auditions every saturday but not the east coast of america. there most likely be an audition in 2009.

onenight:
1. you sing and then they tell you as a group to dance. meaning everyone in the room.
2. i never saw a duo in singing but in dancing. you just have to tell them. let them know and they will say ok. but be sure to maintain the time. cause they have none.
‘mina:
1. like a i said to onenight, you can sing in a duo if you just tell them because they allow that. but im really really sure after they hear you sing, they will want to hear you sing INDIVIDUALLY so prepare for that. because theyre not taking in trainees as partners theyre taking them in as individuals. when youre a trainee you need to count on yourself. its all you.
2. like i said with neko, maybe around 11-17, not too old, not too young. 17 you didnt graduate to college yet (unless youre MAD smart), 11 you just got the experience to be in middle school, where you are somehwat mature.
3. you have to dance. they will tell you as a group, as in the people in the room to dance all at once. you can be those people who just look from side to side and shake their hips or you can be the people who said what the hell and do it (like me -___-) because you might not see these people in your life EVER but if you do, theyre gonna forget HOW you dance anyways.
4. all guardians have to wait OUTSIDE of the auditioning room. ALL SUPPORTING FRIENDS, everyone who is NOT auditioning cannot go into the room.
5. they do not criticize, the worst they can do is cut you right off and tell you to stop. they do not advise, the best they can do is tell you to sing more or ask some questions.

around 30 sec.
usually they give you time to do either the bridge of the song, or the chorus. make sure you pick out the part that really compliments your singing.
i suggest you to prepare around 3 songs
if they are curious about you, they ask you to sing another song, if they are really interested in you, then they most likely ask you to sing again.

you can be any race. whether your asian, european, canadian, anything.
it doesnt matter, but they might be interested if they find you speaking korean when you are obviously not.
they dont take one person.
think it this way, they call it the GLOBAL auditions. if they went globally, why would they waste their time one one person? they usually take in around 30 something people.
if they call you, they want you in the ’second’ round. meaning there might
be a festival somewhere, and they contact you to perform there.
if you wow them again then they will take you in.
the ’second’ round is just to ‘test’ you, i guess you can say….

they have around 100 trainees there already.
so even if you make it there, it doesnt necessarily mean you will debut.
around 20-30 something trainees quit because they just wont debut them.
and they have been training for around 10-more years.

ask a couple of your friends to listen to your singing and vote for which ones sound better.
majority wins.
if you want SM artist: i would suggest, for strong vocals, jang ri in/CSJH.
for mediocre vocals, SNSD/SES
second chance, meaning there might be an event. not a concert. but usually in festivals hold a voluntary singing. there, the SM officials might be there to see you perform, for your stage presence.
if not, usually they make you sing with a group of the other people who passed the first round.

XD das war wohl der beste rechtschreibfehler von mir^^ (Tippfehler) ja kann ich dir gebn leider bin ich dort nur ziemlich seltn on^^… wenn wir über mail schreibn gehts schneller… Also würd ich lieber die mail hinterlassn^^

I’ve read basically the entire page. And to be honest, I wanted to audition for S.M. Entertainment for a long while now…But I’m turing 19 this month…I can sing, but I can’t dance unless someone teaches me. I was wondering about a couple of things, just in case there’s a 2009 audition.
1. For singing, I’m assuming we can sing in any language? Because if that’s the case, I would sing a Mandarin song.
2. For dancing, do they mark you down if you really can’t dance? At all? I’ve never danced before, except for this one time in middle school that we had to learn Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
3. We can’t show any other talents we have? Like…I play an instrument and I have confidence in it.
4. Are we allowed to give them samples of our composition? I compose a little too, but just the music, not the lyrics.

oh, and also…I know people have asked this before, but is 19 too old? Even so…I think most people say I look 16-17, maybe because of my height…or the way I carry myself…lol

YAY!!! I turned 12 just yesterday!!! I have to go to auditions this year no matter what!! But my parets will tell me to study for SSHATest!!! I will be in 7th grade by the time of auditions. Sigh.
Sigh~ but i love singing and dancing!!! it is my life!!! Waa~ feel so sad…
My dad says that people on stage only have dung or poopies in their brains. Lol! how would he think if his daughter was up there? what would he say!!?? I wonder…sigh~ but i want to live out my dream!! But anyway if i audition it will be my first and last chance!! there will be hardly chance anyone will pick a 12 yr old girl

I just missed the auditions in the New York, U.S. area but I’m really wanting to audition for acting and sing as a talent. Do you think they’re going to make me dance? If I audition at home and send them a video through email (because they’re doing auditions all the way in LA) do you think they look at all the submissions or just skip a few. Also can I act a scene from a movie or do I need to make up a scene myself?

Hello! I’m from Argentina. I really would love to take the auditions in my country but not that sad.
Also I do not think it through the auditions because my specialty is only the dance, not sing very well jejejeje. But I really love dancing, I love to dance choreographies of SHINee, TVXQ, Super Junior, 2PM. I have fun taking his steps jejeje
